FM tuners - Are they OBSOLETE ?
I find lots of stuff to listen on FM. I also love my Yamaha T1 from 1978. Until it quit working, i used it every day. I am taking it to be repaired this week. By the same thought process, vinyl is also obsolete (and cd for that matter).
Musical Fidelity A5, Simaudio I-5 or Krell s300i
I love musical fidelity gear. Especially the older stuff. It does not, however, hold its resale very well at all. I recently went through a similar search as you. Looking for about 100 watt integrated. I ended up with a luxman 550 class a 20 wpc. ...
B&W 804nautilus vs. 804s
It appears you haven't recieved very good responses yet. The original nautilus series was made availabe in 1997. It was a drastic change over the previous matrix series. It served B&W well for many years. The next iteration (late 2004) used an...
Need integrated with LOTS of WATTS
If you can stretch just a little, the Krell KAV 300i had a lot of power.
Audio Supports
Some electronics gear has three feet. I've owned some of it. It always seemed unstable to me - if I leaned on a corner by accident, it would just about tip over. Having said that, if the product in question is the proper shape, three would work ju...
B&W 805s tweeters replaced with diamonds
Even if the woofers were the same (I'm sure they are not), the tweeters are two completely different tweeters. Which means the crossovers need to be redesigned (not tweaked, redesigned). It may "work" but I am positive you won't be in the same lea...
What alternatives to Wadia i170??
I think the alternative (for me anyway) is to skip the wadia. I go right from my computer with files ripped in apple lossless to airport express. I'm not using a DAC at this time, but the airport express has optical out, so I could if I chose to. ...
Small Shelf System For Baby's Room?
The tivoli model one does not have a digital input, but it does have an analog input for the airport express. Very cheap and pretty decent sounding.
Mounting bookshelfs flush with ceiling - can you?
there are speakers out there designed for in wall that have enclosures behind them. again, baffle step in the crossover is the biggest issue i see.
Mounting bookshelfs flush with ceiling - can you?
if the in ceiling speaker has a crossover it was designed for in wall. a typical bookshelf will not so there is probably too much baffle step designed into the crossover for it to sound right.
Salk Speakers - Opinions & Advice?
Interesting about the Tom Evans speakers as they did nothing for me. Missing all the upper end. I found the full range Jordan driver an odd combination with what looked like a Hi-Vi bass driver. Way over priced in my opinion. My comment about the ...
Vandersteen X-2 High Pass DIY question- Any Advice
Caps being directional is new to me. I do not think that is true for most caps. Why are you wanting to solder RCA plugs to the leads of the cap? I cannot offer any advice about the X-2, but if you visit tony gee's site (humblehomemadehifi . com) h...
Salk Speakers - Opinions & Advice?
at AAk fest i found the tylers lean and bright. i have not heard a tyler setup that i liked. plus the build quality leaves something to be desired. i have been impressed everytime i have been in a salk room. very involving speakers.
Why are server setups so costly relative to CDP's?
a mac mini with itunes and a musical fidelity v-dac will set you back 850 bucks. i would bet that will beat your rega without any trouble.
Silverline SR17.5 crossover modifications?
Crossover design is so much more important than quality of the parts that make it up. I would be more inclined to spend money having someone measure the drivers then design a new crossover for the speaker first. (There are a number of folks that d...
