Vintage DD turntables. Are we living dangerously?
I bought a 731Q with intentions of doing so but never have. I have seen some online though. I believe the 701 to be the best one.

Sounds like my story halcro. I never liked that Planer 3. I finally got rid of it years ago along with that bouncy Linn Sondek.

I wish you would stop saying some subs are "too slow" bo1972. Bass is slow because it is supposed to be. I can almost guarantee if the bass is tight and fast it's because the sub is not going down to it's desired frequency. When's the last time yo...

A sub may go to 120hz but is not usually a good idea to have one crossed over so high.

Some good points emailists. I was a Velodyne dealer a few years back. Still great I think.

In a room your size Mesch, I think the DD Plus 12" would be good. Velodyne has a chart on their site. Adding another later will work great.

I also do not believe in running my main speakers through the sub's crossover just for purity's sake. I know there are certain advantages to doing so but I like to keep the mains as clean as possible. This way also allows you to just turn the sub ...
Questionable service at Soundsmith
I have used van den Hul quite a few times and he does excellent work. But that was when Stanalog was the van den Hul rep. I don't know who is know.

Fleib,Contact cement is not thick or uneven if sprayed. It's what speaker companies use for veneer. I've used it to laminate lead to armboards. It works well. As for the veneering of the lead, you could use something other than aluminum if desired...

I suggest laminating the lead to a thin sheet of aluminum using contact cement or epoxy. Use a roller to flatten them. I don't think it's a good idea to have exposed lead that can come in contact with the platter or your skin.
WARNING - USE UPS FOR SHIPPING RATHER THAN FEDEX
I've had many big arguments with FedEx over the years but I think they have improved. Mostly about delivery times and leaving my packages all over my neighborhood without telling me and coming to my house and leaving before I could get to the door...

The SP-20 does not have an outboard PS nor does it have quartz lock.
