Balancing doesn't really add complex circuitry if done right. A truly balanced design uses mirror imaged circuitry that is the opposite polarity of the other. It may not make much difference in sound quality but lowers the noise floor and cancels ...

I have a Velodyne DD15 and it has it's own remote with volume and 5 presets. I used the microphone room tuning and seldom fool with it.

Shorting is a different can of worms. The output transformer makes a tube amp see a contant load even when shorted most of the time. This is why a speaker selector uses a transformer for multible speaker connections. But no load at all is a proble...

I disagree with Tarsando. Tube amps are never to be driven with no load on the outputs.

Cleaning records will only make the noise sound cleaner. Some records are noisy when new because the manufacturer used crappy vinyl to begin with.

It could also be a shorted speaker cable or blown driver.

Well it is also true for CRTs but since we were discussing an LCD I didn't include CRTs. LCD TVs are not succeptable to burn in. They are but very slightly. I don't have a source. It is pretty common knowledge though. Okay here are some sources. h...

The gray bars are better for preventing burn-in but is really only important for plasma TVs. 
Does ceiling height make much difference?
The difference between an 8 and 9 foot ceilings is 12 inches. All joking aside, you are better off with a taller ceiling within reason.
