The character of analog and digital
Whether analog or digital, one must try to obtain the musical message first then accommodate the ears to the particular sonic quality. Something we audiophiles find hard to do. Only then can we make a truly informed judgement on SQ

ghdprentice: “The late 50’s / early 60’s vinyl really stand out as jaw droppingly good.” Agree wholeheartedly

Millercarbon, Yes, a very welcome back to you. I’m honored to be the venue for one of your initial posts. Until recently I was in total agreement with your analog/digital view. As written above, I no longer see the dichotomy as so clear cut.

Benchmark, yes! If you have the right equipment to go with it
Cartridge burn-in
audphile1, I wouldn’t try it. I bent the stylus of my previous $1000+ cartridge by leaving the needle on the stopped record and accidentally shifting it with my hand.
Dust Settled Consensus- is the Benchmark AHB2 an Audiophile Amplifier?
bfb1963, Try a tubed preamp for good synergy with your AHB2.

Well, as I said, I’ve finally made peace with the analog side and am starting to enjoy some of my 2000 records.

I find the pairing of the AHB2 with my tubed Conrad-Johnson preamp to be detailed AND quite warm sounding with GoldenEar Triton 1 speakers.
Nuforce Repair?
Bob Smith did work for me on Nuforce a few times 3-4 years ago.  He didn’t seem very healthy at the time.

Well, I had two directions I could go.  I could: 1. Abandon records altogether (as above,)  or 2. totally revamp my analog system.  I chose the latter. Although I have some second thoughts about the decision, I have come to the conclusion that the...

What’s so damned maddening about this hobby is the inevitable marriage of music and sound which becomes so intrinsically entwined that we lose track of the beauty of the music itself. As bdp24 so knowingly prodded: “Remember when you loved music y...

bdp24, How absolutely right you are!   I was half expecting someone to post this in response to my writing.  It’s so easy to take you’re eye off the ball and fall into a slump (I’m watching baseball right now.).  Thanks for the correction. Lord k...

abnerjack, Yes, there is some “magic” in a good vinyl pressing. I’m listening to one right now. Nothing like it! It isn’t that records generally sound bad, it’s that digital sounds usually so damn good.
