SOTA STAR Sapphire Turntable Care and Feeding I’ve owned this table for over 35 years and while I agree it has been maintenance free during that time I’ve never been particularly impressed with the vacuum feature. Think about it: do you really expect the amount of vacuum created by the pump...
Conrad Johnson--does anyone use this brand anymore? Started with a PV-5 then changed to a PFR (which was a huge improvement) then sidetracked to an Ayre K-5xemp but now looking to go back to CJ with a GAT series 2 which will probably be my last preamp purchase. CJ service has always been great.
Upgrading preamp. Best for under $1K Conrad Johnson PF-R (purchased on eBay for $850) and no, I’m not selling you mine.
Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better? I’m also wondering if music genres would influence the debate. It seems like classical music lovers gravitate more towards tubes. I’ve had both and made the switch to SS a long time ago and never regretted it (although, I would consider a tube p...
If I love Elvin jones I'll love.....? Jafant: I happened to see Joey Barron a while back with Steve kuhn in nyc if memory serves me right and was very impressed. Kuhn was very gracious and thanked everyone for coming out and supporting live jazz music. Class act. I’m still, for be...

Puron AC Power Conditioner really.... It seems like There are a number of these devices being offered (not just Puron) and while I haven’t heard the Puron I can tell you that I purchased a similar device (same amount of $ too) and it made absolutely zero difference. Hate to repeat th...

Are audiophiles still out of their minds? Dracule: you make too much sense to be on this site. Have any of these ”enlightened” audiophiles ever reflected on why there are literally hundreds of cable manufacturers, or why some nay-sayers like Jason Bourne have been tarred and feathered o...
Cartridge Advice Please Currently I’m using a Grado Reference on the rb2000. The rb2000 is mounted to a SOTA star table. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong with either of the three cartridges mentioned above. It’s just a matter of synergy.
Cartridge Advice Please I have a rega rb2000 (similar to the rb3000) and I have the two cartridges Kennyc noted on my short list. Also intrigued by the new AT art 20.
Audio people you've had contact with that proved to be good people. Mile Nestorovic (RIP): seemed like a good guy when I talked to him about a much needed speaker repair. Mile was a designer for McIntosh during the day before he branched out.
Blue Note Tone Poet Series Alex: you noted that most of the blue note tone series you purchased were ok sonically but nothing special. Would you be willing to share your thoughts on any exceptions? |
