Magic Diamond vs Airtight PC1?
I think slipknot must have a typo in his description. The Magic Diamond is a medium output cartridge and, as I recall from speaking with Lloyd, the output voltage is about 0.36mV..
Magic Diamond vs Airtight PC1?
I made the mistake of listening to Mr Andreoli's "Silver Spirit" cartridge at Lloyd Walker's house. (It's the the "big brother" to his Magic Diamond cartridge.) I'm ruined. As much as I like my Magic Diamond, the Silver Spirit is even better. Too ...
Magic Diamond vs Airtight PC1?
Absolute nonsense..
Upgrading a CJ PV-10A
Hoopster, not to confuse things, but in addition to Bill Thalmann, another excellent technician who has done some good work on c-j tube equipment is Bob Backert. I couldn't find his contact information last night, but found it today. I recommend b...
Upgrading a CJ PV-10A
I recommend you have a conversation with Bill Thalmann at Music Technology in Springfield, Virginia. Bill is a highly talented and skilled technician who has done a lot of superb work on equipment across the entire c-j line. You will be in good ha...
grado cartridge differences
In my experience with Grados over the years, there are noticeable improvements as you move up the line and increased costs have seemed to me to be reasonably matched with commensurate sound improvement. The wood bodies are overall better than the ...
Magic Diamond vs Airtight PC1?
Krc, I will "ditto" Slipknot1's comments on the Magic Diamond cartridge and also reference an answer I posted to another thread on the Magic Diamond a few nights ago and another from about a year ago, fwiw. These earlier comments continue to hold ...
Best known dimensions for home audio room
FWIW, two of the best sounding listening rooms I've been in have both followed the Cardas Golden cuboid ratios with dimensions of 10x16x26. Marvelous sound and imaging while using a minimum of supplemental acoustic treatment. Best of luck to you i...
Vintage vinyl or new reissues?
Enjoy it, Albert! I think the "Times They Are A'Changin'" mono reissue from Sundazed is even better. Choose for the music you like. I've enjoyed all of them..
Vintage vinyl or new reissues?
The Fantasy 45 Series of reissues from Analogue Productions (all 45 rpm) is about as close to hearing the original master tapes as I ever expect to get in my lifetime.
Vintage vinyl or new reissues?
Vertigo, this is a complicated subject and it varies a lot by specific record. The key factor is the mastering and pressing quality of the two records you're comparing. One certainty in all of this is that you can tell nothing based on the record ...
Basis Debut Mk v or Walker or Brinkman ?
Congratulations, Strapper!! My wife and I have never regretted making the commitment to purchase the Walker TT. I hope you will get as much enjoyment from it as have we. Welcome to the family of Walker turntable owners!.
Adjusting tubes for bias and other tube hassles
Adjusting the bias on the majority of today's tube amps is extremely simple. Quite a number of manufacturers now include "auto-biasing" circuits so there is nothing for the user to do. Where manually adjusting the bias is still a requirement, it's...
Basis Debut Mk v or Walker or Brinkman ?
I will echo Russ' comments about needing to listen to the Walker turntable in order to really appreciate what makes it so special. I'm clearly biased in favor of the Walker having made that decision several years ago, but with the overall level of...
tweaks
Walker Audio's Extreme SST contact enhancer applied according to instruction on all of your contacts will significantly improve the clarity and resolving capabilities of your system. I recommend starting there before buying any sort of hardware. A...
