Can we go back to 33's please?
We've had, and will continue to have, a lot of 33rpm reissues: Speakers Corner, Classic Records, Analogue Productions, Pure Pleasure... All have done and will be doing 33rpm reissues. The 45rpm reissues are a special treasure. For most of us, thes...
Are contact treatments worth the money?
Bicycle_man, no retailer or manufacturer has chimed into this thread. Only various of us who use the products in question..
OJC LP Reissues???
The OJC issues are mostly "flat transfers" from second generation tapes. As a result, the sound has not been mucked around with very much and they typically they sound pretty good. Until recently they've also been pretty inexpensive. In my experie...
Are contact treatments worth the money?
For those who may be interested in actually "listening" and determining for yourself whether a contact enhancer can make a meaningful difference in your system, the solution is fairly simple. Walker Audio offers a full satisfaction guarantee on th...
analog newbie question
You won't damage the cartridge. At the MC setting on the phono stage, the phono stage is supplying more gain to the signal as it delivers that signal to the rest of your system. This has no back effect on the cartridge..
Are contact treatments worth the money?
I consider the Walker Audio Extreme-SST contact enhancer an integral and necessary part of my system. I use it on all contacts and had my electrician use it on all the electrical connections for the dedicated AC lines coming into the listening roo...
The Rite of Spring
If one enjoys the Davis performance of the Rite, it's well worth also hearing the Tilson-Thomas/BSO performance. So many good performances, all pulling different information and emotions from the score. For raw power and energy, I always enjoy the...

JMW9 setup tracking problems... need help
Viridian and Sanji have stated the likely solution for you. Watch the twist on the phono wire. I heard the Denon 103R playing just fine on a friend's Scoutmaster a few years ago. No problems at all. So, I'm confident you can find a solution with t...
No deep bass or highs: VTF or VTA issue?
FWIW, I've listened to the Dynavector XV-1s through a Rhea in a friend's system. No trouble with deep bass in his setup. The sound of the XV-1s is somewhat dark to my ears, though, in the three different systems where I've heard it..
No deep bass or highs: VTF or VTA issue?
Two thoughts:First: Check the cartridge loading in your phonostage to make sure you're starting within the cartridge manufacturer's loading range recommendations. With the Rhea, this is certainly easy to play with.Second: Follow Lloyd Walker's fin...
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange?
I haven't listened to this record for a while and my system is down at the moment so I can't play it to refresh my recollection. I don't recall noticing this record sounding veiled here, and I've not read any comments from others about this record...
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange?
Yep, two separate mike setups, per Steve Hoffman. Capitol was using separate mike setups in this period, too. RVG seemed more successful in the same period capturing a true stereo image in his two channel recordings thanis reflected in this Rivers...
Why does "Monk's Music" vinyl sound strange?
If you're used to listening to the mono version, this stereo version will sound very different. Two different mike setups were used. Here are Steve Hoffman's comments:The stereo and mono recordings of this album were done with two separate microph...
