Amplifiers:A Keeper for Life. Do you know of one ?
I plan to keep my Ayre AX-7e for life - unless I win the lottery! I frickin' love that thing.
Anyone audition the new Thiel 3.7s yet?
I think they look pretty cool -albeit a bit phallic! Certainly more attractive than Wilson Maxx, my Vandersteens, or the new fugliest kid on the block: the new Leviathan (or whatever it's called) that is advertised in the Oct Stereophile.More impo...
Best Value Speaker Model for the Buck?
My "vote" goes to the Vandersteen 2ce Sig II. IMO, it goes a long ways towards the performance of mega-buck speakers (especially in terms of soundstaging and tonal balance) for the relatively small sum of $2K. Its main shortcoming is a slightly ve...
The synergy of Ayre a.k.a. the
"In my opinion Ayre and Vandersteen have a real synergy."This also is my opinion, though other speakers I've heard with Ayre sound pretty good, too. I've heard this from other people whose opinion I respect. This greatly influenced my decision to ...
The synergy of Ayre a.k.a. the
Nrenter,"AX-7e / CX-7e / P-5xe combo (along with Vandersteen 2ce Sig IIs)"That's pretty much my system. I'm really happy with it (though the Sigs are still breaking in and I need to bi-wire). I'm thinking I'm almost done. I'd like to upgrade some ...
The synergy of Ayre a.k.a. the
"I want the MX-r amps but worry wether they have enough power for my Thiel CS7.2 speakers."I had a short audition with the MX-Rs driving Thiels 7.2 a couple of months ago (not that I can afford either of them!). In the 20 minutes or so I spent wit...
Comparison of Thiel CS2.4 vs. Vandersteen 3A Sig.
I've heard both, although months apart and in a different room. I think they both sound terrific. My impression is that the Thiel is quicker with, perhaps, a bit more resolution. Also, I think the Vandy is slightly more coherent and musical. Tough...
Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II
To Stevesanders: I've heard the Ayre AX-7 drive 3A Sigs, which are 'sposed to be a more difficult load than the 2ce Sigs. I thought it sounded great. I didn't crank the volume, but another Vandy owner told me that the AX-7 will drive the the 3As p...
Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II
Thanks, Ecruz. I agree. I've listened a bit to the 3A Sig and I would rank it among the best I've heard (a list that includes the Avalon Eclipse, Thiel 2.4, Revel Studio, and Wilson W/P 7). At that price, the 3A is quite a value. I would have figu...
Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II
I finally got my Jan 07 Stereophile yesterday. Art Dudley's review was very positive. More and more I'm thinking these could be my next speakers. The only thing that gives me pause is the frequency response measurements. John Atkinson found he cou...
Which $7000 speakers to ask Santa?
My choices in that price range would include the Avalon Ascent Mk II (which I haven't heard in many years but is still memorable) and the Vandersteen Quatro (which I have *never* heard, but I love the 3A Signature).
Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II
After a small bit of research, it appears that the 3A Sig midrange driver is not different than the 3A. >>Good point, but I'll be happy to have near 3A Sig performance in a smaller and less expensive package!
Vandersteen 2Ce Signature II
Still awaiting the January Stereophile . . . So is the midrange from the 3A or 3A Sig? Sounds like the tweeter is ceramic-coated, which means it's different than the 3A Sig tweeter. Anyone figured out the real story?
