I really like S'phile but take the RCL with a large dose of salt. Firstly, you've got rankings by committee. No one person has heard everything, cetainly not under the same conditions. One reviewer's class B could be better than another reviewer's...
Vandersteen Model 2Ce Signature II
Damned good! Regarding power, I drive mine with Ayre AX-7e (60 watts) to great affect tho' I cannot reproduce concert levels of The Who. I love the combo. Regarding room size, mine is considerably larger (18x19' with a vaulted ceiling) but I have ...
Getting back into digital. Please help.
In your price range, I recommend any of Ayre's digital products, especially with the new "MP" filter. My upgraded CX-7e MP rivals my analog rig - seriously!
What is the affect of cd player?
Here's my experience: I had a mid-fi system (B&W DM12s, NAD receiver, Magnavox CDP, Technics 'table) for many years and have since upgraded. First, I replaced the NAD with an Ayre integrated. A very nice improvement, made me want to sit and li...
Well Rounded Speakers $2500-$3000?
There are many good suggestions here but I have to second Drewfidelity's recommendation. IMO, anyone shopping in the sub-$5K category has to consider Vandersteens, either the 3A Signature or the 2Ce Signature II. I went with the IIs because they s...
2 Ce Sig II tilt ?
>>>I reading it correctly?I think yes. I also sit at about 9' from my Sig IIs but with a slightly lower listening height. By memory, my tilt back is about 1.5". Also, don't be afraid to experiment beyond the parameters suggested in the ma...
Vandersteen 2Ce Sig 2's with Alpha Core AG-1 wire
When I got my Sig IIs, I had a single run of Cardas Neutral Reference with a jumper made of POS 12-gauge wire. Although I mostly enjoyed the sound, I was bothered by a veiled quality of voices and acoustic instruments. After a failed Ebay attempt ...
Vandy 2ce sig versus 3a
You should post this on Vandersteen's "Tech Advice" board - get the info straight from RV who seems to answer such questions with candor. Understand that Vandersteen is frequently updating the design and not always are changes reflected with a new...
Ayre AX-7e Static Discharge
>>>I am all the way from Malaysia Maybe you should contact the distributor for Malaysia (they might be able to do any needed repairs), but it will still be worth your time to call Michael at Ayre.>>>replaced with inferior/lower q...
Ayre AX-7e Static Discharge
My AX-7 doesn't do that. You need to call Ayre and ask for Michael - he'll know how to diagnose your problem and fix it (even if it's not the amp).
Attn: Ayre v-5xe owners
Proth wrote: '. . . especially before thier "e" implementation.'I agree . . . I can't speak for the V-5 but the "e" upgrade to my AX-7 resulted in greater bass definition and, seemingly, extension (among other nice improvements). In other words, I...
DAC vs. New CDP
I had the fantasy of getting a DAC and a Mac Mini to replace my CDP. I thought it would be a good way to play back hi rez digital. But then I found out that most "hi rez" downloads are CD equivalent and there really aren't very many titles availab...
Anyone had an Ayre xe version updated to MP yet?
>>>May get a dust cover for the TT.Interesting choice of words. I certainly don't intend to retire my vinyl rig, but I have put a temporary ban on buying new vinyl pressings (which tend to cost substantially more than CDs - the reverse si...
Replacement for Vandersteen 2ci
Jtma, As I wrote above, I have never heard a pair of 2cis. But I am confident that the Sig IIs have far superior tweeter and midrange drivers, plus 20 years of incremental improvements to the crossover, cabinet, and woofers. They should sound much...
Replacement for Vandersteen 2ci
Jtma, I've never heard the 2ci but I would guess that if you like them, you'll love the 2ceSigIIs. They should certainly be on your short list. Stevecham, as much as I like the Thiel 2.4s (I almost bought a pair to replace my 1.6s), IMO the SigIIs...
