Who puts their speakers right up against the back wall and why?
I have Larsen 6.2s right against the wall and they sound great. Also no fuss over placement and out of the way. My Polk Audio Monitor 7s in the vintage basement system are out from the wall and are quite satisfactory.
to my ears digital audio does not sound natural? something is wrong!
I think the prejudice against digital is driven by boomers and the people they influence who have great nostalgia of their LPs and tube equipment. Absolutely that stuff was great and a lot of fun to meddle with, and much of it sounds fantastic. I ...
Magnepan, Ohm, Spatial or ??
Absolutely look at the Larsen 6.2 model and also the 4.2. Both sound fantastic and are easy to place, right up against the wall. They are also light and made with high quality veneer cabinets. The only possible objection is that they are rather od...
CD Transports
Just to clarify, isn't it so that the new DACs are vastly superior to what they put in the older CD machines? Thus it makes best sense to get a transport because one is usually bypassing the built-in DAC on older players. So some older players may...
CD Transports
For the record I did get the Marantz CC 45 5-CD player from 1995 to hold me over. It has Philips components and sounds great and cost me $50. I know 5-CD tray machines are anathema to audiophiles but they are very convenient, especially if you lik...
CD Transports
Audiolab CDT it is. The Marantz HD was tempting but why get the DAC when I'm fine with the Exogal Comet? The CXC is probably fine but too many issues for some. I like the idea that the CDT is simple, stripped down to basics and apparently sounds g...
Correct Input Sensitivity Setting for Cartridge
I settled on the medium setting as that sounded fine to me. Also, the Sherwood is completely restored and sounds amazing. I went vintage for the second system and for under $500 it sounds so good I am wondering why I ever spent so much on the fanc...
CD Transports
Thanks so much for all the advice. The Cambridge Audio still looks good but there seem to be reliability issues. If I get a refurbished one possibly it had its problems and is fixed. I am leaning to the Audiolab and the Marantz HD cd1 so things ar...
Correct Input Sensitivity Setting for Cartridge
Thanks for the info. As you can see, I haven't much experience with turntables. Formerly I just hooked the table to the Rega phono pre and that was it. Also I thought there may be some considerations about using a modern cart with an ancient recei...
Why do you think Bi-Wiring improves the sound ?
I have Larsen 6.2s run with an Exogal power DAC, Comet and Ion. I hear absolutely no difference between bi-wire and single speaker cable, and in fact one reviewer of the speakers said his sounded better with the single wire. I did keep the bi-wire...
What's up with TMR Audio?
I figured it out!  Marijuana is legal in CO and sold at shops. Probably the TMR staff has been taking advantage of that fortunate situation and are stoned for the holiday season. Seriously, TMR is a reputable company and probably experiencing grow...
The Music Room - Boulder Colorado
I have bought a number of things from TMR and sold several items also. I recommend them very highly because they are fair, honest, and good with communication. I would not hesitate to deal with them again. This must be some sort of mix up and I am...
Budget Tube Amp (newbie)
Absolutely Rogue--wonderful stuff.
How much do you need to spend to get digital to rival analog?
Very simple answer--Exogal for 7k. Absolutely wonderful sound that kills my former tube equipment with a far smaller footprint. Tubes are greatly overrated though lots of fun.
Reel to reel
I used to have a Tandberg 6000X and then a Revox 77 and loved them back in the 70s. But I can't imagine anyone going open reel in 2019 unless they like the toy factor. Tape breaks, it is difficult to load, the machine is expensive to fix and has m...
