Best way to balance 4 spike speakers
I lost count of how many 4 spike speakers and speaker stands I have owned and I never had a problem with leveling. If you are going through carpet you need to apply enough pressure so the spikes will penetrate the carpet and pad. If the floor unde...
Tube recommendation for Audio Research LS-2b?
Sovtek 6922 as the original tube in your LS-2 did not sound right to me, so I did a little research and as I suspected the original tube was a Chinese 6DJ8. As I recall it was actually a 6DJ8H. My favorite tube in the Audio Research hybrid preamps...
Tube recommendation for Audio Research LS-2b?
I'm sure Audio Research would have the best recommendation for you.
Hum, buzz, snap, crackle and pop?
George Kaye used to make a small tube tester that is ideal for evaluating the noise level of tubes.
Frustrated with the sound of my system
THE END!
Rebuiding midrangers on Thiels
Unsound, Good idea providing you have a good driver.
Living Voice for Shindo?
I used to own Living Voice speakers. Although I did not try them with a 15 watt amplifier I can say they are efficient and work extremely well with tubes. They made my 60 watt monos sound like 200 watts.
Rebuiding midrangers on Thiels
Thiel charges $300 each plus shipping to repair 3.5 mids. I would definitely check with Millersound before spending more than $600 to repair an $800 speaker system. If you are not familiar with Bill (Millersound) he is third generation in the spea...
Dunlavy speaker cables
I have some Dunlavy speaker cables with an opening in the jacket. The internal wire does not look like anything special, but it is my understanding Dunlavy had Cardas make the wire for him and the latest, Z8 version, supposedly matches his speaker...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Spaz, Newbee, Almarg, We all know about the room and how important it is. We also know about speaker placement. Read the OP's second post. "I know the speaker placement is probably not ideal, but I do have some constraints based on room layout and...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Newbee, The OP states the speakers are almost placed across a corner. I take that to mean diagonal placement. If that is the case the majority of your post regarding speaker placement does not apply. The same is true of the Cardas program which do...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
You guys are crackin' me up. There are times when room treatment is obviously needed like when the listening position is backed up to a wall. Treating the wall behind you is a must to eliminate reflections off that wall. However, lately it seems w...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Shakeydeal, The room does not always contribute 75-80% of the end result. That sounds like advertising by someone who makes or sells acoustical treatment. A recommendation for room treatment is ridiculous without knowing anything about the OP's ro...
Frustrated with the sound of my system
Bradluke0, I disagree. Furniture, window treatment (drapes), bookcases, etc. are in fact very effective room treatment. Compare an empty room to a furnished room and hear the difference while clapping your hands. David Manley, the founder of VTL a...
Sub wolfer advice
Zmanastronomy, I do not see the benefit in your recommendation. If the OP is using a powered subwoofer there is no bi-wiring involved. The subwoofer only needs a sample signal from either amplifier output while running the main speakers full range.
