Who is using passive preamps and why? Herman, My previous statement "If you want to select components, speakers and wire around a volume control it's ok with me. I prefer the sound of an active preamp because it sounds like music".And this is why there is a variety of equipment for sa...

Vandersteen 2C vs. Klipsch Cornwall I agree with Viridian, EL84 amplifiers can be amazing and very magical. I own a Manley Stingray which is an amazing amplifier. I also own a vintage Sherwood S-5000 which uses a variant of an EL84. The Sherwood sounds so good it makes you wonder wh...
Who is using passive preamps and why? I believe there is a problem with a source component being required to drive the amplifier and thereby loading the power supply of the source. Active preamps are designed to drive the power amp, not the source.
Who is using passive preamps and why? I tried passive preamps and 7 volt output CD players straight into power amps on numerous occasions and with several amplifier/speaker combinations and passive never sounds as good as a high quality preamp.
Are B&W Nautilus 804's too bright As with any good speaker, associated equipment and proper setup are a must. They can either sound really good or really bad depending on the rest of the system.
