Unipivot and suspended TT?
Mingles, You've heard my VPI HW19IV/Moerch UP-4 setup so you know the combo of suspended TT/unipivot arm can sound very good. You should mount your Haddock and invite me over for a session.
Kenneth Wilkinson Discography
Here is some verbiage from Arthur Salvatore's website. I have found this summary to be pretty accurately predictive about the sound of Decca/London releases: "I have finally (and reluctantly) decided to "spill the beans". Anyone who has read this ...

ckoffend,You seem to have an ideology rather than a fair evaluation of reality.UPS, Fedex, and DHL treat their workers like shit and the workers know that their jobs depend on ass-kissing and not performance. If you don't like people who work for t...
Music Reference RM 200 vs. Mcintosh 275 amp
For what it's worth, I used to have an RM-9. I had a few problems with the biasing circuit components (esp. pots) and Roger assisted me in fixing them myself, talking me through the procedures, giving upgrade advice, and explaining everything (and...

"Commcat," your tale bears all the earmarks of an urban legend.Have you microwaved your cat lately?
Dump run on McIntosh MC402?
These amps are going for $4000 or so and you have to admit, however many they sold, nine listings at once is a lot of MC402's. Practically nothing is selling right now over the $2000 mark (maybe even less). Is the high end of the used audio market...
Anyone have trouble with Dvorak Stabat on Telarc?
Shadorne, Some of the peaks that challenge my amp and can cause severe distortion occur in the first cut on CD1 at 6:30, 7:45, 15:00, and 16:20. The timings are plus/minus.
Down grading with better /= sound
I tried an older pair of Shahinian Obelisks in my system and was astonished to find them rather comfortably more satisfying than my Alon Circes with Thunderbolt subwoofer and custom made crossovers. The Circe setup cost $15,000 while the then curr...
Anyone have trouble with Dvorak Stabat on Telarc?
Shadorne,I think I have erred. Though I had listened to this cd at reduced volume, I never really listened at VERY low levels-- until now. I think what I am hearing IS, after all, clipping. I took the time to listen to a few other choral recording...
Anyone have trouble with Dvorak Stabat on Telarc?
By the way, Shadorne, 100db in an anechoic chamber is not at all the same thing as 100db in a regular listening environment. And yes, 104db is a healthy volume. But you will hear greater db levels than that in the first few rows of a concert hall w...
Anyone have trouble with Dvorak Stabat on Telarc?
Thank you all for your suggestions.BUT:I really need to hear from people who have actually heard this cd (Telarc 2CD-80506-- Dvorak: Stabat Mater). I do not have this problem with other Telarcs of equal quality and dynamics. It is the fact that I ...
Anyone have trouble with Dvorak Stabat on Telarc?
Shadorne,The distortion occurs first at the very first big climax at about 3or 4 minutes into the first section. Ditto the next big blowout a couple of minutes later. If you get through the first movement without distortion, you have a better copy...
Anyone have trouble with Dvorak Stabat on Telarc?
The problem is not my system, which plays the Telarc Brahms Requiem and Dvorak Requiem and numerous other big choral pieces without distortion at nice high levels (104+db peaks on my Radio Shack meter). I have not heard any other format for this r...
Is Plinius 9200 bright sounding?
I used a Plinius P-8 amp for a while driving Shahinian Hawks in a well-damped 2000 cubic foot room. The P-8 is the amp section of the 8200 and is, according to the distributor, virtually identicalto what they are now using tin the 9200. I listen m...
Vinyl noise?
One possibility is that the back of your arm is brushing the cuing bar. This can happen and cause a loss of contact with the record groove. The resulting sound often seems like swishing.
