Looking for New Speakers - Suggestions Look into PMC and ATC speakers. Both brands are capable of high volume and low distortion, but also sound good at lower volumes.
Capacitor log Mundorf Silver in Oil What a saga...you are a very patient man with a great deal of time on your hands. Congrats.
Zu or Harbeth I haven't heard any of the Zu's, but I love the Harbeth 40 (haven't heard the 40.1) and I would buy them in a second if I had the means. Speakers are always an individual choice, but try to hear them before you make a decision.
Vibraphone recommendations? Definately check out any material by Bobby Hutcherson. One that I like is the Cuban influenced "Ambos Mundos". He is a virtuoso in the true sense of the word.
re-doing KEF 104/2 x-overs help please I wouldn't try to get caps and resistors that are similar to stock, because there has been substantial improvement in these passive components since the eighties. I recommend that you call Jeff @ Sonic Craft. He has a lot of experience, and he wil...
Match amps to speakers The preferred english usage is forums.
Pass labs x350.5 VS. McIntosh MC402 There you go. Like I said, you have to listen for yourself. Two high quality amps that have made many people happy- but not neccesarily the same people. It is really interesting to think about how we all hear things differently, and just as intere...
Pass labs x350.5 VS. McIntosh MC402 The house sounds of these 2 companies are very different, so don't buy without listening first, no matter what reviews you read. I'm sure that it is a matter of sonic taste, and not quality, but on the strength of numerous reviews, I bought an X25...
Tweaks Good isolation tweeks are definately worthwhile. Cones, pods, pucks - they all have a noticeable effect, especially on source components. Try some and see what works for you.
Any good equipment racks that are afordable? I bought an Adona SR4 last year after owning a trusty old Target rack for about 15 years, and I am very happy with it. The access to components is so much better, it is very stable, it looks good and the shelves are infinitely adjustable. I think ...
Diapason vs Reference 3A de Capo i On the strength of positive reviews, I bought a pair of DeCapos 4 years ago on Audiogon. I was using a Mac MC300 and a Mac 2105. I didn't like the sound at all, and I sold them faster than any other speaker I have ever owned. I heard the Adamantes...
Audible illusions Modulus 3A or Klyne 6L I can't comment on system synergy, but I can say that the Klyne preamps are beautifully made, and the sound is also beautifully balanced without harshness, similar in my mind to the better Jeff Rowland models of the past.
CD Repair? I have polished damaged CDs with jewelers polishing compounds of several types and high speed spinning buffs. On a CD that has seen a lot of abuse, it will remove 90% of the scratches, but the really deep gouges will resist being removed completel...
Your fav online resource for high end gear is.... I turn to everything from magazines to Audioreview and of course Audiogon. Still, there is no substitute for listening for yourself if possible. In my case it isn't always possible. I read many glowing reviews of the Pass Labs X250.5 for example, ...
Beautiful Monitors? Definately consider Diapason Adamantes. They are small and beautiful, and they make great music without a lot of power. On top of that they are small. |
