CD PLAYER
I would look at reliabilty. And that means players outside of the ultra high-end. Marantz, NAD, Yamaha, Oppo etc... All CD players will break sooner or later. Why invest a lot.Cheers

I see Miss Fleming quite often in the British music magazines. A great talent and beauty. The articles in the English magazines tend to illustrate your statements about encoraging and supporting our arists. The Brits / Europeans seem to do a great...

Donjr:Could it be possible that all the great art has already been created? That there is nothing left to say. Think about that for a moment. I didn't mean to imply that I think current performers should just play the same thing as their predecess...
How do I smooth out violins?
Maybe it's the CD, the recording itself, not the player. You should not attribute every aspect of your sound to a component in your system. Nothing will correct a poorly recorded LP or CD.

Gentlemen:Did you read the OP's list? I am familiar with everyone he listed, except possibly, Ingrid Michaelson. Love them all. But, most of these people are done, or pretty much done. So the question is, where and who are their replacements? The ...
Help me discover some new music...
The music scene is in a dismal state these days. Not a lot of talent, but a lot of copy cats and celeb wannabees making tons of money being 'famous'. Most would not have lasted 5 minutes in the 60s / 70s. So, don't expect too much. I have been lis...

Mo' money. Mo' problems.
I happened to be in Germany during the late 60's and early 70's. I remember the 2002tii BMWs flying by me on the autobahn. The rear tires on the 2002, at speed, looked as if they were riding on the inner sidewalls.BTW, the BMW 3.0cs cost 7000$ new...
Can anyone explain cable risers?
Is there ANY phenomenon, man-made or natural, that DOES NOT affect high end audio systems? Is there any phenomenon in nature or man-made that an audiophile CANNOT hear? This includes anything occurring in the Milky Way.Cheers

Charles1dad: You are correct of course. I just have to rant and rave every so often. I read a post on another site where the poster said high-end audio is like Icarua, of greek mythology, who flew too close to the sun and his wings of wax melted. ...
what would you change if anything, in this set up?
Don't buy anything. Play with speaker positioning and your listening spot. 10 ft seems to be a bit far considering the distance between your speakers.. maybe you need to mitigate the reflectivity of the glass areas with some sort of absorbent mate...
Is there any real alternative to Oppo??
The Oppo 103 is only 500$ new. And Oppo is the ONLY product I know of that has never had a discouraging word spoken about it. From what I have read on the Video sites, their gurus say blu-ray is blu-ray, so the differences to look for are the feat...
Massed strings and large choral groups
Yes. applies to any type large group. Chamber much easier than a full orchestra etc.... In fact, that's why many 'great' classsical recordings are those where all the different instruments are clearly captured. Carlos Kleiber's CD of Beethoven's 5...
