Never Use HiFi-Exquis - Worst Merchant Ever!
".....blaming the Chinese for the pandemic without citing any credible proof is just wrong."                          Cranial-Rectal Inversion (obviously)!
Compression Horns for Far field listening
You’ll need an inductor at least (for a 6db/oct slope), to block the highs from the 8" driver.     http://www.apicsllc.com/apics/Misc/filter1.html            Choose parts and a slope, via this, for the horn (1uF @ 8 Ohms = 17,000 Hz @6db/oct):  ...
Tube Dealers 2021
Brent Jessee Recording is my go-to, for rare, NOS, 6SN7 Octals.    I've gotten some of my very best NOS, nine-pin miniatures (especially, my Siemens), from this seller, in Germany:   https://www.ebay.com/usr/audiotubes_de?_trksid=p2053788.m154...

ZERO surprise (even less sympathy)!
Dahlquist DQ10 issues
"...so I tested by listening until I started to hear the failure...".                                                      Knowing how that, "failure" sounds would be most advantageous, to anyone attempting a diagnosis.      ie: A dead, complet...
Dahlquist DQ10 issues
btw: If the system’s still putting out some sound, but at (seemingly) much lower levels: try cleaning the treble level control (and again, the tweeter fuse holder).      When the upper freqs are missing, everything sounds way off.      I suppose I...
Dahlquist DQ10 issues
Your DQ-10 pair was manufactured with metalized Mylar capacitors.    Film caps don’t age, dry out or leak as do aluminum electrolytics.     Unless a resistor burns: they don’t typically go bad either.    If there were an issue with the crossover...
Cable Elevators
Why would those with experience have anything to concede, to those with theories?    Especially: given the plethora of variables, in this hobby.
Phase Linear 700 & 400 series II
"Hand an idiot the keys to a Ferrari and watch what happens."                                                    Based on the plethora of 700/400s requiring repair (way back then): an atypical number of, "idiots" must have owned them.      To th...
what is "B" stock
Oldest dead thread resurrection, in quite some time.      Not one of the posters has been AudiogoN-active in 20 years.       KUDOS!
How old are you?
WELL: they discontinued my blood type......
Variac or not?
"Can you explain why lowering supply voltage (variac) would burn out resistor in series?"           Just thinking there may be a corollary, here:          An AC motor, connected to too long of an insufficient gauge wire/cord and the attendant volt...
Preamp sending amp into protect
Then again: some amps have coupling caps, at their inputs.   ie: The early Haflers had a, "C1", for blocking DC, on the driver board's input.     Perhaps a bad one, on the left (if applicable)?
Preamp sending amp into protect
Some preamps have (coupling) capacitors in series with their outputs, to block DC from the power amp.    You may have a bad one, in that channel.       Try swapping the outputs of the pre and see if the problem follows (L to R).     If so: at leas...
