Refurbish a Dynaco St70
YEP! ARC's first FM tuner was based on the Dynaco FM-3. The M-60 MkIII C3 amp was a redesign of the Dynaco MkIII. ARC offered kits, to remake the ST-70, using only the chassis and transformers. Imagine what we'd have had, back then, if Hafler and ...
Refurbish a Dynaco St70
"Pry- I meant with modifying Dynacos, not where he lived. :)" Actually: Mr Johnson began a company known as Electronic Industries, in Minneapolis, Mn, in 1951. He was building some amps back then. Another company assumed ownership, but- he stayed ...

"but that is only if you consistently push the amp hard." I had the same Mullard GZ34(Blackburn), for about 15 years, but always had the system bi-amped, below 200Hz(ergo: wasn't pushed). "I really don't like modifying the chassis of older units- ...
Refurbish a Dynaco St70
Hello Ralph- "the original design is quite competent except for the power rectifier system, which is handled by a single 5AR4." Just curious as to whether you've ever added a second 5AR4(and heater transformer) to an ST-70.
Zany measurements and theories
There are a number of references cited, in the first post of the following thread: (http://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?t=27421) No doubt; there's some interesting reading to be found. Especially the Journal of the Audio Engin...
Zany measurements and theories
Empirical evidence(empirical data, sense experience, empirical knowledge or the, "a posteriori") is a source of knowledge acquired by means of observation or experimentation. ie: The second 50% of my last post(my personal experience/observations)....

Most estimates for stylus surface temps range between 300-500 degrees(F). The temperature of your record will be at(or close to) room temperature, except at the point of contact with the stylus. Much will depend on VTF and RPM(higher numbers there...
Refurbish a Dynaco St70
Personally- if I were going to rebuild an ST-70 now days and retaining a MOSTLY stock(tube rectifier/greater filter cap capacity) power supply(like I used to), I'd use this board: (http://www.curcioaudio.com/st7upg_3.htm), stuffed with higher qual...
Refurbish a Dynaco St70
Depending on how in-depth you'd like to go; Joe Curcio may be the best person to contact. He has decades of experience, in rebuilding/modding the ST-70. These amps have some excellent transformers, which are(arguably) the most important components...
Passive radiator
Some prefer less bass from their systems. With a rear-firing port; wall proximity can become an issue as well. I used to provide a couple pieces of bonded Dacron, with my vented systems, so customers could adjust to their tastes.
Passive radiator
The cabinet should be sealed, to avoid noise and messing up the alignment. It will, however, operate as a bass reflex system. "Sealed enclosure" indicates an Acoustic Suspension system.
what drivers are best? thinking of a DIY project
Morel, ScanSpeak and Seas all built very good drivers. Here's a good place to shop: (https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com) Studying the very comprehensive specs, included in the descriptions, should help you best choose your combo.
Passive radiator
The correct way to design a passive radiator, is to run the Thiele/Small parameters of the woofer and cabinet internal volume, for a ported/bass reflex(ie:Fourth Order) alignment, using the diameter of the radiator as, "port diameter." . Then adju...
BEST TONEARM FOR HIGH COMPLIANCE MM
As Al mentioned; I've been a very happy Magnepan Unitrac I user, since 1981. Actually; I've got two, and narry a hint of trouble with either. They pop up on eBay(or were) often. The Grace 707 and Maggie both have the same low mass(7 gm), while th...
