Anyone have a pic to show me where to replace HEXFREDS in a Cary CAD-120S?
Follow your hot and neutral power cord leads(within the chassis) and among first connections, you’ll find three diodes, connected in series to each AC lead. Three will be facing cathode to AC supply lead and three: anode to AC lead. Mine had a sin...
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
@oregonpapa:   What Charles said, +1!
Synergistic Red Fuse ...
Too bad there’s no Stereo Review, EarsR’goN blog site, to attract what must have been Julian’s fans. Such would at least divert some of the nonsense.  Sneers!
Who thinks $5K speaker cable really better than generic 14AWG cable?
Julian Hirsch would be SO proud!
Crossover capacitor voltage ratings....
An interesting article, which includes a treatise on  amplifier voltages and output power ratings, keeping in mind that your crossovers may often be facing your amplifier’s peak output voltages(or, possibly, clipped signals) on louder music passag...

What, "preamp"?  The Prologue 5 is a  push-pull power amp.  It's nine pin dual triodes are phase-splitter and gain(driver) stage valves.

Give Kevin a call, at Upscale.  No one will be able to offer better advice, regarding which will yield the most, and what tubes will best provide your favorite aural flavor.  (https://www.upscaleaudio.com/pages/contact-us)

OUCH(I feel your pain)!   Best wishes on a fast recovery and complete system restoration.
Connecting Speaker Cables to Dynaco ST-70
I always installed Vampire or WBT five-ways on Dynaco tube amps. Simple to remove the existing terminal strips and use the same openings, without butchering/modifying the chassis at all. Insulate the unused x-former leads. MUCH better connection t...
Pre Amps which sound similar to "older" Conrad Johnson Tube Pre amps?
You can generally achieve that old, warm coloration by loading a preamp with NOS British valves, like from Mullard, Ediswan and Brimar(UK made/not rebranded).
What's with BAT?
Here's hoping it helps, somehow.  Happy listening!
What's with BAT?
Hello, slaw- Generally speaking, it seems most that use the term, "musical", are referring to tubes that add warmth to their system. Siemens won’t. The early to mid 60’s, grey shield, internally date coded, CCa is a very neutral/clean tube, with b...
What's with BAT?
That’s what I thought. I was aware of the tube, but- never saw it used, prior to BAT’s VK-D5SE(et al). I’m with you, when it comes to the most excellent 6SN7, but- I don’t believe anyone made a quieter tube than the Siemens CCa(six, in my VK-D5). ...

Hi, geoffkait- "Besides IIRC hydrogen has its risks......"? I’d say you remember correctly, unless one intends to launch a Saturn rocket, or is planning a disaster. =8^) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_R7GoRcuDzA)
What's with BAT?
Hello Ralph- Do you know of anyone, stateside, that actually incorporated the 6H30 in their designs/products, before BAT('98/'99)?
