How much does tube brand REALLY affect sound in terms of rectifier tubes? Voltage sag and compression aren’t the only cause of changes in the sound of a component's presentation. Mainly, that affects it’s dynamics. That’s why I said, "sometimes", that will improve with a rectifier change. The short answer to your quest...
Hearing is believing?........power cables....... Let's see, what has, "Science" taught us? At one time observation, which fosters common sense, led those interested, to believe that the Earth was the center of the universe. After all, everything seemed to revolve around it. Someone invented...
Hearing is believing?........power cables....... Schubert & cmsgolf- This site could be the focus of a case study on hubris.
How much does tube brand REALLY affect sound in terms of rectifier tubes? Another thought: Given you have monoblocks, you could try installing a GZ34 in one channel’s amp, running the system mono, and compare the sound of the amps, before buying a second. Everyone listens/hears/judges differently.
How much does tube brand REALLY affect sound in terms of rectifier tubes? There’s some good info regarding 5AR4 and GZ34 tubes here: (http://www.audiotubes.com/audtube.htm)
How much does tube brand REALLY affect sound in terms of rectifier tubes? If I still owned anything that required the 5AR4/GZ34 rectifier and hadn’t changed them already, I’d be investing in either a Mullard(Blackburn) GZ34 or Philips 5R4GYS(if it fits). For over four decades, every piece of gear that I’ve owned(plus a ...
Need FLEXIBLE Power Cord . "Except everybody will tell you how the meal was, ....."? It’s been my experience that, "everybody" will not have the same reaction to my cooking. ie: Most appreciate the Habanero peppers and garlic that I use(heavily) in my Guacamole-type dip, an...
Hearing is believing?........power cables....... ROTF-LMAO! That’s to be expected(unfortunately), given how many view the universe with such myopia/naivety. (https://arxiv.org/ftp/arxiv/papers/0708/0708.1536.pdf)
the Q-Up The first Safety Raiser I owned, purchased in 1980 for $19.95, functioned faithfully(and GENTLY) for 34 years. The 20 minutes of initial set-up had been long forgotten. When I found my NOS/NIB second sample, from the estate of an obviously obsessi...

Hearing is believing?........power cables....... @geoffkait - Dunning-Kruger Realtors own that cave. Very little light can penetrate.
Looking at upgrading to a new MC cartridge any thoughts? I've found my 17D3 very enjoyable and easy to maintain. Dynavector provides a brush, for cleaning the stylus and cantilever. You probably got one with your 20X too. That and a little STYLAST(same bottle since 1981) have kept everything depos...
Need FLEXIBLE Power Cord . Just another of many variables to consider in this hobby. Best we can do is research, experiment and hope for the positive. Thinking about the plethora of possible electrical/electronic interactions and tastes in sound, it's kinda like cooking.
Need FLEXIBLE Power Cord . @schubert - What's what I've been thinking, regarding their scarcity. I know I'm not coming off mine, any time soon!
Need FLEXIBLE Power Cord . @kinghifi- Never had a Mother II. Of course, cables are one of those things that are highly component dependent, when it comes to compatibility. It’s also said that they(PCs in general) can take much longer than other cables, to, "burn in" and sou... |
