What frequency do I crossover subs
Due to way too many variables, there is no way to figure out on paper what is the optimum crossover point for subs in your room. I followed this method successfully: set the point at which my mains were rated -3db on the low end, dialed in phase a...
MC 275 tube amps with what speakers ?
I have read (never heard) that Eggleston Works Andras sound good with these amps (search this and Speaker forum). While I have not heard this specific combination, I will say that the Egglestons are among my favorite speakers. While I own and love...
Speakers to consider around 5k used?
Where are you located?
building the best system I can?
Had I $5k cash and a pair of $1300 speakers (regardless of make) I'd first listen to a boat load of other speakers (in the $4k to $3k range, new/used) to verify that I really do like them best. I'd likely lean towards selling the speakers and usin...
Importance of Soundstage/Imaging
1. Coherence2. Timbre3. Detail3. Openness3. Bass3. Dynamics4. Imaging5. AirAt first I had considered timbre most important, but I've heard incoherent speakers before and they bothered me so much I didn't even notice if they had proper timbre. The ...
How to get the impact of a live concert?
Ralph - Thank you for that explanation. Every time I read one of your technical posts I want to rush out and buy one of your amplifiers. Some day that just might happen!
Best beer
Recently had a La Trappe Quadruple on draft at a Belgian beer garden, Victoire, in Rochester, NY. Very tasty.
R.I.P. Andy Williams
I never liked the kind of music he sang, especially when sung by his peers. But every time he appeared on TV I was glued to the set. I found his voice very appealing and always enjoyed his performances.
When was the last time you listened to live music?
+1 Elizabeth.Got all excited about a bluegrass performance at local, historic, small theater (seats maybe 200?). Sitting in a back row I easily conversed with two of the performers on stage at normal volume. Once the show started they fired up the...

Rory Gallagher Original Album Classics
You should then also enjoy him with Taste, "On the Boards".Also get his two live releases, "Live in Europe" and "Irish Tour". Great stuff!
Taming edge from remastered CDs?
Rarely any edge for me. Carefull built my system on reproducing clearly with no edge for one and only input: CDs. There still are some which can make my ears bleed if played too loud, but they were so poorly recorded or remastered they are hopeles...
Over 55? - You Gotta See This
I'm over 55. What the hell's a "youtube"?
How much does your system retail for?
About twice what I paid. The only two items I paid retail for are preamp and one sub (first of two). The preamp is a steal at retail, so no regrets there. My second sub (same model as my first) was less than half retail from same manufacturer so w...
