Denon dead?
The Denon AVR 5805 sold new for $6K in 2005. So your's is long-in-the-tooth! And at 97 lbs. it will be a costly roundtrip shipping expense. There are some for sale for $1K or less. Maybe buy one of these and trust that it will last another 5 - 10 ...
Denon dead?
Time for a doctor! Find a knowledgeable and competent technician and send it off for repair. Still under warranty? Otherwise repairs could be costly! Maybe junk it and start over with a different brand (Sony, Yamaha, Pioneer ...).
Best budget preamp for my entry level system?
How about a used Proton integrated amp? They have pre/amp in/out jacks, so can be used as a preamp. I have one that I paid $50 for! Made in Taiwan at the same factory as NAD, back in the 80's. These are killer-sounding integrateds! Both pre and po...

Any cable delivers more bass than Cardas Golden Reference?
I went back to my local Home Depot and tried to buy another spool of RCA all-copper zip. NLA!

@mechans: No Longer Available!
Media: Should we start hoarding?
No, there are still millions of LPs and CDs in use and circulation! No foreseeable lack of physical media in the future.
Researching value of two pairs of hi-end speakers
I had the EV Aristocrat cabinets. They usually came with EV drivers and x-overs. I got my pair of empty cabinets in a trade from a friend. Not worth much! Loaded with EV drivers they might sell for $200 - $400 dollars/pair.
Has anyboidy had any experience with an 833-A single-ended triode amplifier?
@gregdude: I pulled up Will's ad. I believe they are PP mono using pairs of 811A transmitter tubes and big output trannies. Also 4 (!) 5R4GY rectifiers per chassis. Some serious plate voltage here (1200+). Looks like a nice restoration job by Will...
The Golden era of Japanese integrated amps, are we missing out?
@sejodiren : I too bought a Proton (maybe the same model) cheap - $50! Very impressive and versatile - especially with the pre/power in/out jacks! And I almost passed it up!

I needed some wire for the Nines and the Ohm Sound Cylinders. So I bought a spool of RCA 14 ga zip cord (all copper). NLA at the Depot. So far sounds real good! I'm using 6 ft pieces to connect from amp to speakers.

@dumbeat: that Amazon 16 ga is no better than Home Depot zip cord. On the other hand the Western Electric cloth-covered wire has a really cool retro look! I'm tempted to buy some!

@almarg : thanks! I just now got the article and pictures from drbarney's other thread. Awsome looking amp, for sure! Not for the faint-of-heart!
Suggestions for getting a commission to custom build tube amps
My apologies for my last post! That sure is an awesome amp! Comparable to a Kawasaki 750 Mach III (excuse my motorcycle analogy)!
