Replacing components, Please weigh in!
Don't waste your money! Get a nice vintage NAD integrated amp, like a 3020 or later model. A few hundred dollars will do! NAD (and its cousin Proton) made some of the best sounding hi-fi gear. Competitive with today's four-figure stuff! I own both...

Keep the Dynavector phono stage. No need to replace it! Just add a ground wire from your turntable to it. This should. eliminate him! All turntables need to be grounded to the phono/preamp. Any old wire will do - no effect on sound quality!
Recommendations for Vintage Speakers
DCM Time Windows 1A. Better sounding than any of the above (except the Snell AIII - which I also have). I am now on my third pair of TW’s. First pair bought in 1977, second pair in ’78, last pair bought 2 years ago. Cost $219 + shipping in like-ne...
Aerial Acoustics 10t opportunity...too little, too late?
Get working on that Altec 604 and cabinet/x-over project! When finished those will be real gems!
Aerial Acoustics 10t opportunity...too little, too late?
I collect and use speakers that are dynamically alive: Altec's, JBL's and Klipsch. I had a pair of Altec Valencia's (similar to the 19's) that I now regret selling. Still have the Santana 1's, Stonehenge 1's, Segovia's and Bolero's.
Aerial Acoustics 10t opportunity...too little, too late?
Keep the Altec 19's! They have the "breath of life" dynamic range missing in most of today's touted hi-end speakers (Ariel 10t's included) that require mega-watt amp power to come alive! A PP tube amp using 6BQ5's for 15wpc can drive the 19's easi...
Did I buy a broken amp?
Does the Wadia amp have input level controls? If so, these may be set too low!
Did I buy a broken amp?
What amp were you using with the Kef's before the Wadia?
Did I buy a broken amp?
Disconnect the preamp. Connect the TV audio left & right outputs to the amp inputs. Use the remote to control the sound volume. If this results in adequate volume then your amp is ok. The preamp is now suspect!
What is your favorite High EFF speaker
Altec Valencia's! A favorite of Art Dudley of Stereophile. I had a pair. Regret selling them!
Eico HF-81 question for those that have one and moved on from it or returned
I have two nicely restored Scott tube integrateds so I know the appeal of such classic gear! Especially when paired with classic speakers!
Eico HF-81 question for those that have one and moved on from it or returned
You might just have the best HF-81 in the US! I'd keep it and just go for a speaker upgrade instead of another tube amp. Altec Valencia's or LS3/5A's, eh!
Great sounding/recorded albums
Here's what I've been using for a long time: Weather Report's I Sing The Body Electric and Sweet Nighter. Columbia Records LPs. The songs respectively are: The Unknown Soldier and Boogie Woogie Waltz. Joe Zawinul, Wayne Shorter and crew show how t...
What is a sumo nine worth today?
Keep the Nine, get a pair of Quads - old or new - and you will be more than halfway to audiophile heaven!
What is a sumo nine worth today?
There is quite a bit about it on audioreview.com from different sites!        An excellent amp from the late James Bongiorno (SAE, Dynaco, GAS). It runs hot (fan) and puts out 65 wpc class A. Ten output transistors per channel. Designed and produc...
