I was literally minutes from purchasing the Special 40's... I certainly wouldn't spend thousands for the Falcon's or other versions! Reality check: the Rogers version listed at $450/pair in 1976 - 78! I was tempted then to buy a pair!
I was literally minutes from purchasing the Special 40's... You might get lucky on the used marketplace. I bought my Rogers LS3/5A's (11 ohms) from an eBay seller in Lithuania (!!!) for $960 + shipping. At that price how could I resist! They arrived safely intact!
Driving different pairs of speakers with different speaker wire lengths You can get an Andover Model One Songbird streamer for $129 and a Tidal subscription. No need for the Denon changer!
Listening to full LPs vs virtually endless digital tracks. Due to time constraints I like listening to half of an LP or CD. Never individual tracks!
Best Patricia Barber or Keith Jarrett Album ? I like Jarrett's Arbour Zena on ECM. Also Survivor's Suite (ECM). These both feature Keith in an ensemble setting with talented sidemen!
defective pre-amp I'll put my money on georgehifi's advice!
Is there any merit in former SOTA gear, The best-selling tube amp is still the Dynaco ST70! Still very desirable despite competition from Ch*na! Like vintage US cars it is easily "hot rodded"! I have one with a different input/driver board. It can drive the Quad 57's very well - and saf...
Is there any merit in former SOTA gear, Not to mention my Ohm Walsh Sound Cylinders and DCM Time Windows driven by James Bongiorno's Sumo Andromeda amp!
Is there any merit in former SOTA gear, I have two pairs of Quad 57's and a pair of the Roger West (Sound Lab) designed KLH Nine full-range electrostats. Both these speakers can compete with today's over-priced five-figure offerings! Add my original built-by-Julius Futterman H3 and H3aa...
Music Reference RM-4 Input-Loading and Gain-Select plugs If there are no loading options on the front or back of the RM-4 leave it alone! I'm sure that the late Rodger Modjeski knew what he was doing when he designed/built it!
Music Reference RM-4 Input-Loading and Gain-Select plugs @imhififan : +1! You've got it right! The RM-4 is a linear-gain (no equalization) stage to boost a low-output mc cartridge's voltage (below 1 mv) by adding gain (30db). I have a Marcof PPA-1 (battery-powered) which does the same thing. In the old ...

Werner Jagusch Crossovers Damaged on Delivery - Can I Repair? Just buy new inductors from PartsExpress.
SAEC WE-308 L or a new tonearm? A Jelco for less than $1k would be a better choice than the other two tonearms you mentioned.
SAEC WE-308 L or a new tonearm? Pass on the SAEC arm. Why? Because its offset angle is too small to achieve accurate alignment. |
