Jeff Rowland Model 7 & Model 5 Upgrade do you prefer the loss of tube warth that they now have?I always wanted to try and listen to his products but never had; I prefer a tubelike sound as I own tube amps; How do they seem to perform with string instruments?
SS Pre-Amp / Tube Amp I ran a klyne 6lx3p preamp with my Cary slam 100's driving my dunlavy sc3's and there was good synergy between them; I am a believer that a solid state preamp can work very well with tube power.
What is a live speaker? I second mrtennis's selection for electrostatic speakers; this is my second year with soundlab m2's and they are everything I researched before buying them.I think you owe it to yourself to hear a electrostatic speaker, especially the soundlab line...
Best Towers Under $4,000 / pair I would include dunlavy sc3,4,or 5'sthese are excellent speakers and do show up on the used market
Merlin 1B I had 4b+'s driven by McCormack dna-1 monoblocks and then VTL 225 monoblocks and the sound was fantastic; There was imaging, focus, and proper timbre (especially on strings). This was my first pair of high end speakers and they were great; I think th...
Soundstage...How to determine what's right? I second the chesky recommendation; It will explain each audiophile term and then give you a example to listen to;this is a very good cd to use for evaluation of your entire system.
Cheapest Sweetest deal you've found A pair of mcCormack dna-1 monoblocks from the factory for 1800.00 as someone bailed out on a special order; many years ago.
Classical speakers that do violins well?? I think my soundlab m2's do quite well; driven by tubes they have a very good synergy.
Best Tube Amp under 10K? I don't know what the impedance curve of your KEF's looks like but if they are not to tough of a load I would look at Atmasphere's OTL lineup of amps; if you have never heard OTL amps you owe it to yourself to at least hear them.
Thiel 3.6, what will drive them best? I agree with Jdolgin suggestion: I had a pair of dna-1 monoblocks that drove my merlin 4b+'s and ohm f's quite well; I highly recommend the dna-1.
What do you think about this statement Don't let a comment like that ruin your system; there is to many variables involved to make that statement 100 percent correct; You may have found that synergy for your systems components that makes the sound perfect for you.
speaker to big? Can you audition the maggie's or not; I would keep a eye on the distance from the back wall with maggie's and possibily think of slight diffusion if you were to go with the maggies; I have soundlab m2's and have them 3 feet off the back wall; not ...
For people with experience with Class-A amps Were your measurements taken during playback or idle state?I think I would agree with ralph's response from atmaspherethat there is nothing to worry about; if you notice some audible changes then I would investigate more.
The CD you most listened to back in 2007 ? Well I am a throw back; the 1966 recording of Frank live at the Sands with Count Basie and his band; Quincy Jones arranger.
most difficult speaker to please soundlab speakers; will bring down some of the best amps available. |
