What to do about ventilation duct noise???
Are your ceilings high enough that you could install a plenum (a large air cavity) that is lined with some type of sound damping material and then have several ducts come off that plenum? It might mean putting in a dropped ceiling to hide the fix,...
Any Opinion on DCC/MoFi CD Quality?
I've found many importants, for example, Harvest version of Pink Floyd's the wall to sound much better than the MoFi version. Queen's Night at the Opera is much better on import than on DCC. There is far too much compression used on the original U...
Best Acoustically Untreated Room You Have Heard?
I agree with you on the looks of a "treated" room. They can look pretty aweful. However, they don't have to. I sometimes think that much of the room treatement was designed to look ugly to please some audiophiles. For example, Sonex foam. It is no...
Audio and Wine?
I love good wine, and appreciate all the above suggestions. I was fortunate enough to have a neighbor for several years who was a wine distributor. He would just tell me what I needed and what was great and everything was at wholesale. I got spoil...
Merlin TSMM's with ML 383 + ML 37 or 39????
The other suggestion would be the Audio Aero Capitole. I have only heard this unit once and was very impressed (but once is not much of a study--so I'm certainly not an expert on the matter). Others, that are more familiar with it than myself have...
Stereo or Home Theater?
I personally have not been impressed by any of the music reproduction in multi-channel. By the same token, I am not impressed by movies reproduced in 2 channel. It seems each format is up to the task it was designed for. Now that music is starting...
Honest opinion's of the Mighty KLIPSCHORNS????
The EAD is a good choice. Since you are using them 50% for music, I would recommend tubes for those 2 channels. You don't need much power (but you already know that). A nice SET, or even a low wattage push-pull would sound great. Then get a 3 chan...
Is it necessary to clean every record?
This thread reminds me of a poster in my dentist's office that reads: "Do I really need to floss all my teeth....only the ones you want to keep."
Vertical Bi-amp using 2 power amps v mono blocks
Monitor speakers really don't create huge demands on power amplifiers. The imedance can go down to 2 ohms, but it's not the difficult loads that hybrid speakers (ESL with dynamic bass) can produce. Also, the monitors are designed for bi-wire and n...
pure class A?
Audiofile9 makes a very good point (request). I once recall someone telling me that while you may understand something, the true test is being able to explain it in simple terms to others, so that they understand it. That said, I felt I understood...
Bridge or not to bridge
Trollmuse: I have the Monolith IIs bi-amped. They are incredibly better bi-amped because you don't have the low impedance of the panel competing against the high power requirement of the woofer. In your case there is no question--take the amps out...
Static Build Up On Record Surface
Rosstaman offers good advice. If you do live in a dry climate and have synthetic carpeted floors it is likely that YOU are the source of the static electricity. You can buy a grounding device that plugs into the ground of the electrical outlet at ...
Bridge or not to bridge
Bridging can offer you the benefits of mono amplifier (total separation) and higher power. However, the downside is that most (not all) amps when bridged do not perform as well at low imedances. In this case it is important to match the speaker an...
Is it necessary to clean every record?
Not only every record but everytime it's played. At least in my experience this gives the best long term results. any dirt, even surface dirt, can be ground in by the needle. If the record is cleaned befor play this reduces the possibility of this...
How to stop the boom in the low frequencies
Clueless: Thank you. I debated whether or not to post. As you say, it is a fine line. Sayas, also points out an excellent resource. We use it regularly.
