Room Treatments
So a bit more about the blanket thing over the TV might be in order as some are missing the issue I think. You are going to get reflections off it as the sound from the speakers projects out hits a surface and bounces back. Then it will hit the gl...
Room Treatments
The Complete Guide to High-End Audio by Robert Harley addresses room treatments and more. It's a good starting guide. I used this in the beginning of my audio room adventures.RIVES also has a great service where they will give you plans to address...
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
Tape Project tapes on my Ampex or vinyl on my SME 30 sound better to me than anything I've heard on any digital gear I have tried or any digital gear that I have heard.I'm trying a MacBook pro with a Weiss DAC 1 right now and it's very, very good....
When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I'm going to say it will eventually get there but not with anything we have currently. Redbook CD will never get there in my opinion. It's too course to possibly trump vinyl.Higher resolution perhaps but it hasn't happened yet. I have hope because...
Attn Vinyl lovers - what CD Player do you use?
MacBook Pro with a Weiss DAC1 mkII FW and Amarra. Lovely midrange and the best bass I've heard. Totally smooth high end too.
Electrostat - M-L; Quad or Soundlab - reliable
To follow on Brian's comment - I've listened to Quads, Martin Logans, Innersound and Soundlabs. To my ears, the nicest ones to listen to were the Soundlabs by far. Once you have heard them all I think the decision is pretty easy to make.
Electrostat - M-L; Quad or Soundlab - reliable
I'll throw in another vote for Soundlab reliability. Mine are the latest PX panels and they have never had an issue.
Soundlab owners - room placement question
The tube amps might give you what you are looking for. If you can borrow a pair from someone or try one a dealer in your area might have then go for it. I've heard the Soundlabs with both tube and SS amplification and each has it's strengths. I do...
Soundlab owners - room placement question
It sounds like you are finding what works for you. Generally the closer you get to the rear wall the greater the room will boost the bass for you. At 7' you are very close to the 1/3 point of the room so that should work quite well.As for the body...
Soundlab owners - room placement question
Hi,I've got a room that's smaller than yours and I'm using A-1 PX panels in it. It measures 18' x 13' x 8' with a bulkhead around the upper edge to break-up the bass. The speakers are within 1" of the bulkhead. Bass traps in the rear corner, diffu...
Can Mac/PC compete with High End CDT??
I should clarify one thing. The software does not do it's conversion in real-time. It's much faster than real-time so when you are converting an entire disk it does it in a matter of minutes, not hours. You could convert several hundred files over...
Can Mac/PC compete with High End CDT??
Hi Tbg,It's stand-alone software and it does not do it's conversion in real-time. What you do is take the digital file (perhaps a CD or download) and up-sample to a desired target sample rate. Typically you double, triple or quadruple the sample r...
Can Mac/PC compete with High End CDT??
I believe so however, there are so many combinations I would imagine it's impossible to come to a consensus. I would certainly be concerned if anyone made absolute statements regarding either approach, now or in the future. The number of possible ...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
1. Audi S4 Avant - what I drive every day.2. Audi RS5 - what I'm trying to convince my wife we should drive every day (with limited success although she does like the "looks").3. Audi R8 or, since cost is no object... Bugatti Veyron EB 16.4- what ...
What's your profession? Age?
Many things - I studied as an architect so I've spent some time there but I've also designed sets for rock music festivals, rock bands, television and theatre. I have been a university professor at two universities, spent about five years working ...
