Impedance - The most ignored and useful measurement tool
@erik_squires  I've been at this a long time and just today realized there was such a thing as negative impedance Negative impedance must cause those pesky electrons to speed up.  Possibly a battery? @lanx0003 If you look carefully at your g...
3k budget for Turntable and Phono Noob- do I need external power supplies?
@lewm  Just checking on the XLRs because I've ordered a long litz cable run for my SME 3009 tone arm, with two XLRs on the far end!  Will be balanced right through ...
Would like to get more bass out of my B&W 801 series 2 speakers
@chessie You have not said how your floor is constructed but the law of action and reaction may have a bearing.  When your big driver moves forward, an equal force tries to move the cabinet back, especially if the speakers are on rollers. You nee...
Power supply for ethernet switch?
@mclinnguy Well, I’ve re-read the article on Alpha Audio entitled “Hard evidence: a network affects playback quality” and am little the wiser.  Alpha Audio is a Dutch audio blog started by Jaap Veenstra, a journalist with an interest in audio. D...
3k budget for Turntable and Phono Noob- do I need external power supplies?
@lewm  All modern phono cartridges can run in balanced mode. The TT has nothing to do with it. Any tonearm with 4 leads out can be wired to an XLR.  Shouldn't that be two XLRs?
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade
@hipsterjefe Orthogonal means at right angles.  So each sheet in the ply is laid with the grain going at right angles to the one below it (and above it).  Just like ordinary plywood. Extreme heat and pressure have profound effects on wood and ca...
Power supply for ethernet switch?
@mgrif104  “Some will still disagree or remain skeptical about 30 picosends of timing error being audible. So be it. But I would suggest that it’s no longer worth arguing over. It can be measured and some of us hear the improvement.” I was sim...
BS meter is pegged!
Porsche builds an excellent pure electric car, the Taycan, which is available as a Turbo!  I call marketing bullshit again
Power supply for ethernet switch?
@mgrif104 I've read the article and am none the wiser about what it actually claims to be measuring!  I found the dog's breakfast of wires in one of the photos illuminating. If it is measuring jitter in the ethernet, be aware that all ethernet d...
A cable too perfect?

@grislybutter  Oh, I had not realised it was your compilation! I assumed it was from a technical publication. You are not the one who called them beercans, neither did you call them bookshelf speakers.  I have difficulty linking to responses to ...
speaker upgrade fever
@grislybutter  I almost accidentally bought a pair of KEF Reference 1 speakers to tide me over while repairing my Quad 2905 electrostatics, which are widely recognised as very accurate speakers.  In many respects I prefer the Reference 1 - it pla...
Linn LP12 turntable
@yoyoyaya SME and Linn have quite similar origin stories, albeit with a couple of decades separating them. Both had access to high-precision engineering facilities. In SME’s case their founder was looking for a tone arm and asked the workshop if...
Linn LP12 turntable
@yoyoyaya  I guess the further you are from Glasgow, the less likely you are to return a unit for repair!  Linn's early market was the UK and that Stereophile article is itself over 30 years old. Strangely, an inverse law seems to hold for Scotc...
