Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade
Only the market will determine if the Bedrok is under-priced, over-priced or right-priced.  The market will always be changing, and the more uncertain people feel, the less they will spend on discretionary items. Get pricing wrong in general, and...
Vinyl playback - lack of bass?
@lewm  I just randomly picked a mid-price CD Player - it happened to be the Marantz CD 60 - and digital playback is down to 2-Hz.  No brick wall at 22-Hz USB DSD: 2Hz - 50kHz (-3dB) USB PCM: 2Hz - 50kHz (-1.5dB) CD: 2Hz - 20kHz
Vinyl playback - lack of bass?
@lewm Because digital has a brick wall filter at around 22Hz, the response stops dead at the frequency.  ... digital goes very low until it doesn't.  This is not what happens in live music in any real world venue. I cannot get away from the fact...

@newton_john Maybe like at the start of the twentieth century A lot of physicists at that time thought there was nothing new to discover - all that was left was measuring things more accurately.  Mind you, they had no idea what powered the sun...

@newton_john between our respective counties Hope that was a typo, though the good folk in the state of Canada will be watching closely.  Australia buys much more from the US than it exports to the US at the moment, but no reprieve for us! Th...

@newton_john It is striking how little progress has been made in fundamental physics since I was at university fifty years ago, despite the huge expenditure incurred. So far, string theory hasn’t produced a single experimentally testable finding...
Re; Dynamics, Class D vs tubes…
@zlone I drive my KEF Reference 1 speakers with an old Krell KSA-80 class A amp, rated at 80-Watts into 8-Ohms, 160 into 4 and 320 into 2.  The results are stunning, but I have not really compared amplifiers.  The speakers were demonstrated with ...

@newton_john  I also had a great uncle who’d been some sort of technician/instrument maker at Cambridge and had worked with some of the great men who’d done much of the Physics that I was learning about Those laboratory technicians were vastly...

@dover  diamond hardening refers to a heating and cooling process used to harden the steel, it is not a coating. The Dohmann uses maraging steel - which is really an alloy, likely including elements of copper and nickel that results in a harder ...
Removing stylus from Shure V15 Type III
I just got back to Canberra and made straight for my old Shure V15 cartridge.  The stylus slid out with a gentle pull just as you all said it would.  I have no idea why it would not do that earlier, but it there has been very low relative humidity...

@daveyf Question is what price is it that elicits push back?? Answering that question is why marketing people get paid! Or to put it another way, is the Pro-Ject Signature too inexpensive to be taken seriously by audiophiles?  I am sure it is...
Linn Bedrok LP12 Plinth Upgrade
Since the focus of this thread seems to be the retail price of the new Linn plinth, I thought it might be worthwhile to post this extract from Pro-Ject's literature on their most expensive Signature turntable, which has a retail price of 12,000 Eu...
Speakers sound too bright.
@mvanwoert I have played with ML speakers for decades and a few things to keep in mind are: 1) They are line sources that radiate in both directions and 2) they are a capacitive load not a resistive load.   When I looked up the OP's speakers, ...
Stereo mode in phone stage going out
@nicholsr  usually about the 4th/5th song is when the (always) right channel goes about 98% out in stereo mode When you say 98% out, is that 98% of the time or 98% of the volume? I suspect a loose contact around the base of the tonearm cable....
Need to learn about Audio Research
@whart  Not to mention his "we don't actually listen to our amplifiers, we let our customers do that". He described his amplifiers in engineering terms "unconditionally stable into any load". I am a bit surprised that nobody has done a digital ...
