Manley Steelhead Tube Rolling Cjfrbw - you are correct. The 5687 is a substitute for the 7044. I tried the TungSol 5687. It is punchier, more forward, yet not as smooth and warm as the 7044, IMHO. I will try some NOS 7044 tubes in place of the stock tubes to see how they sound.
Manley Steelhead Tube Rolling Has anyone had experience with tube rolling the 7044's as well as the 6922's? A poster on the Asylum is using TungSol 5687's in place of the 7044's and getting great results.
BAT vs. Mcintosh? You didn't say what the rest of your system is, other than speakers, and why you think you need an upgrade. As many have stated, the VK-60 is a superb amp. If you wanted to upgrade from that, you might want to somehow get to the VK75SE, slightly m...
Graham tonearm tweaking Sirspeedy - The mainstream audio press may have dropped the ball regarding Graham fluid damping, and its affect on bringing out the best in that arm, for a variety of reasons. Trusting that the designer knows his product well, it has not been mad...
Graham tonearm tweaking I was the one who started this thread topic back on 9/30/04. Many responded, but it was SirSpeedy who rose to the occasion and has developed the most informative and detailed analysis regarding this tweak. My hat's off in tribute, SirSpeedy. This '...
Graham Phantom vs the Graham 2.2 Strapper - What is the 'effective mass' of the Phantom compared to the 2.2?
Mcintosh C2200 VS Mcintosh C200 S STATE ? I have to agree with Hassel in all respects. I have actually owned both and still own the C200. I use a Transfiguration Temper W with the MC phono stage and it works well. The C200 is all balanced whereas the C2200 is not. Replacing the bulbs insi...
McIntosh MC275 as Monoblocks - A Good Idea? I have to agree with Velo62 and the others above. Given your preference for heavy metal CD's, adding another tubed amp (MC275) still wouldn't sound as good as adding a Mac SS amp.I do indeed run two MC275 IV's as monoblocks driven by a C200 Pre. B...
Anyone hear the McIntosh MC275 mkIV You're right, Ron-C. The IV is not dependent on exotic tubes for "good" sound. However, some NOS tubes could make it better, depending on sound preference. I have used gold pin Sylvania 5751 and 6201 with excellent results, better than stock. I pe...
Anyone hear the McIntosh MC275 mkIV I have to agree with Honest1 in that the 275IV is very smooth and grain free. Given the stock small tubes, it could accentuate the upper mids; however, like any other tube amp, it lends itself to tube swapping. Changing to NOS small tubes can brin...
VK-51 backpannel question Agree with Beemer above. The magic of BAT is fully revealed when used in the balanced mode with balanced connections. Using single-ended adapters is a compromise.
Mcintosh mc275 vs Mac2102 They basically sound the same leaving the slight power factor out. I have had both. 2102 - nice blue meters but hassle of changing bulbs when they invariably burn out; nice binding posts for various speaker cable attachments.275 - the IV version i...
Graham 2.2 damping fluid amount? SirSpeedy - another thought.Once you got your arm dialed in for a particular cartridge, did you have to change the amount of damping fluid if you changed to another arm with a different cartridge attached?
Graham 2.2 damping fluid amount? Wow! I'm glad I asked. Thank you SirSpeedy and 4yanx for your expertise. Your statements make very good sense but little is said about damping and its adjustment in the Graham manual. 42659 - if you find out what that other fluid is that is purpor...
BAT VK75 / VK75SE Question I have my VK150SE amps sitting on Symposium Accoustics Ultra Platforms, with Virtual Dynamics Nite II power cords. |
