Grand Prix Monaco review in new Stereophile- OUCH Not to change the subject to another product..BUT, MF just did a review of the Merrill-Scillia Research MS21 turntable and also seemed to 'damn it with faint praise". It likewise does not seem worth "24 large". It's interesting to see how many man...
Seeking hot running amps If you want great sounding amps and not just space heaters, try BAT VK150SE monoblocks, especially if used with a BAT preamp.
SME 20/2 Faulty Silicon Oil Plunger Were you setting up the table for the first time and putting spindle oil through the oil filler adapter into the bearing housing? Or were you setting up an SME tonearm? If the former, you will have insufficient oil in the bearing housing and will n...
Any experience with the new Linn Sondek upgrades? Looking at the picture of the underside of the Keel, in the October Stereophile article, it appears that only Linn tonearms can be used with it, eliminating use of other possible choices.
Any experience with the new Linn Sondek upgrades? Aceto - As Kinsekd has mentioned, you must read the review article in the latest issue of Stereophile regarding the Linn upgrades. It appears that the Keel is logically the first choice step - to improve the table itself. After that there are many...
Anyone own/heard the Trancendent BEAST amp? $1400. to retube - Yikes!!
Any experience with the new Linn Sondek upgrades? Kinsedkd - The "whole nine yards" upgrade - Keel, EKOS SE, and Akiva lists for about $10,945 (3000+4950+2995) if my figures are correct. I assume you got a good deal, including the Circus, by jumping all at once. It's nice you can afford to drop a...
BAT REX and VK 52se above the VK 51se As the saying goes - you can't get there from here (51SE to REX), hence the log jam of 51SE's for sale. The upgrade path ended at the 51SE. Most will need to start or 'upgrade' with/to the 52SE, then add the REX upgrade, as funds allow, unless poc...
SME IV/V tonearms compatible w/ Denon cart. ? The 103R works great on my SME V. No special adjustments needed. Set-up as with any other cartridge. Enjoy.
McIntosh C1000 tube pre vs. ARC Ref 3? The chances of anyone(reading/posting here) who have auditioned both the REF3 and C1000 in the same system are slim and none.......and slim just left town.
Capacitors for BAT VK-60 Flemke - You installed the V-caps on 4/30. On 5/3 you report back saying that there is "no downside whatsoever once they are broken in" and that they need 400 hours to break in. Is that comment based on your experience? How did you get 400 hours o...
Tube rolling, Macintosh MC275 Mk IV Mrtennis - I am puzzled. The C200 preamp is all solid state. Are you referring to the C220?
Upgrading my Basis 2500. Vacuum or no Vacuum? John - The vacuum pump does make some slight noise depending how high you set the vacuum. I have mine underneath a leather sofa in the same room. With music playing at quiet levels, you cannot hear the pump. Some prefer to put the pump in another ...
Upgrading my Basis 2500. Vacuum or no Vacuum? I second Thomas's reply. I also have a Debut Signature Vacuum. I can easily hear an audible difference between playing with the vacuum on or off. The Basis vacuum is built like a tank, is easy to adjust, and works like a charm. I highly recommend it.
Krell 400xi vs. BAT VK-300x vs. McIntosh MA6900 I agree with Jeffjarvis. I had a 6900 and switched to the MA2275. Didn't need the extra power of the former and much preferred the tube sound of the latter.Good luck. |
