25 customs/tax fee to ship audio to Canada ??
This is a sticky wicket indeed. As a Canuck who has done a few cross-border deals (both ways) I can advise that indeed since NAFTA that any audio gear manufactured within the US and Canada is entitled to traverse our border without duty. But its j...
How many versions of Magnepan SMG exist?
You can add the SMG-c to the list as well. The original SMG version was a bit larger and heavier looking than its successors. I believe that the "a,b and c" versions were quite similar in size all being not as wide as the SMG but I could be wrong....
Would you cancel 3,250 deal cause 16 short?
You are a very trusting soul to send that amount of money without using an escrow service but I guess you had your reasons. If it had been my cable I would have called you and inquired as to the short funds and then waited for the remainder to sho...
Tube pre-amp for Bryston 4BST?
Don't know how that screwed up... Rogue 66 "Magnum version" and while it is now mated with a 4B-SST it worked great with my recently departed 4B-ST.
Tube pre-amp for Bryston 4BST?

Bel Canto for Tyler Ref Monitors or others ?
I am presently upgrading from a Bryston 4B-ST (worked very nicely with my Ref Mons) to the SST version (pre is a Magnum Rogue 66). E-mail in a week or so and I'll advise my results.
A pass Labs X250 amp worth a divorce?
Mjcc- the X250 vs 4B-ST comparison is not really a very fair one. You are comparing a $6K amp vs a $2.5K amp (new against new). Is the Pass 2.5 times better for the price - only the guy fishing out his money can make that call. While I am a strong...
Is it too mismatched to pair Maggie 1.6 & NAD 370?
An update - I recently demoed my 1.5's for a potential buyer using the wife's NAD L40 as a source/preamp into her NAD C270 amp. No the results were not my Rogue/Bryston combo but nevertheless it was very palatable. You could tell the bass control ...
What system to match Merlin TSMM's?
Rogue Audio Tempest integrated (preferably the Magnum version) is one that should be on your short list...
Polarity Invertng Rogue 66 W Bryston 4BST
Tx for the update - I guess I would have known this had I taken the time to read the manual... Will try it both ways when it returns from its visit to PA.
Ever wonder why things are screwed up?
Ok - after spending almost 25 years in the Railroad industry (specifically track related Engineering) I can assure you that standard gauge is in fact 56.5". Thats not to say that there isn't a level of tolerance that is allowed for as a result of ...
Cables 101 for a beginner
There is a plethora of opinions on the subject of cables so we can't cover them all quickly. My 2 rules of thumb that I try and go by are:1."Try before you buy" if you can. If you can't then buy used - helps if you have to or want to re-sell.2."Wh...
Plinius 8200P or Bryston 3B-SST for Maggie 1.6 QRs
AKE - if your budget is around $1000 you won't be getting a Bryston 3B-SST for near that amount - its too new a model. If you also require a preamp (based on your comment on the Bottlehead...) then no doubt your budget for both components is more ...
Plinius 8200P or Bryston 3B-SST for Maggie 1.6 QRs
I think both of these amps would do a nice job (but a 4B-ST would do better...). You could always get a Plinius integrated that would negate needing a preamp...
Is it too mismatched to pair Maggie 1.6 & NAD 370?
The NAD may do an "adequate" job but you should be looking at more juice for those Maggies. I run a Bryston 4B-ST with my pair of 1.5's and IMHO its just enough. The B60 is not enough for that particular model and I would look at a minimum of 200 ...
