Dead Can Dance's Into the Labyrinth
Wow Albert, very nice suggestions. Looks like I have to upgrade my Dead can dance collection. I noticed Lisa's voice in Whalerider but did not know the connection to Dead can dance. Thanks for the post Warren. I had complete forgotten about this C...
Tecnodec w/HR PSU - Speed Problems - Help?
Balance, thanks for your post. I never tried a strobe disc, but I might try to get one now that you mention a speed instability with the Tecno. By the way: Did you feel the HR was an improvement otherwise over the basic ps?
linn kairn/kolector or tube preamp
I have heard both the Wakonda and Kolektor at home for a few weeks and prefered the Wakonda by a wide margin. The Kolektor was not really any inprovement over the pre section in the Linn Classik that I had at the same time. The Wakonda on the othe...
Budget MC cartridge for a Rega P3 &Supratek Syrah?
I used the DL103 on my Rega Planar 3 as well. It is a great combination on the P3. The DL103R is even better than the basic version. Other cartridges I tried are the Elys, which is not even close to the Denon. The Kontrapunkt A I have works well w...
For those interested in the PrimaLuna Prologue One
Did anybody else find it strange that TAS reviews both (Primaluna and TAD/Cayin) in adjacent issues and completely fails to menton that they both are based on the same design and the same factory? It would have really been nice if they would have c...
What's your latest "Discovery"
Hi Marco, nice to see that you are still around. I haven't seen any posts of you lately.I really love this thread. Nice to see that it got revived again. Thanks for your new suggestions, I will have to check out the Chemirani Trio's CD. I am alway...
Advice with changing a tonearm???
Dave, some corrections: - No, the Basik cannot be switched in voltage, only a Valhalla or Lingo LP12 can. (Lugnut: Other Linn equipment like the Classik, newer Majik, LK85, LK140 cannot be switched in voltage and require a transformer change. You a...
Blue Circle CS vs. Unison Unico
Loose, looking at you old posts seems like you like the Unico much better now with your new speakers after you had some issues with the Unico-NHT combination. What else did you change in you system (tubes, cables etc.) to get everything out of the...
ipod/itunes problems
Merganser, you'll have to excuse me on this one, but if redbook CD has a place here so does the ipod with its cabaility to store about 80 CD's in redbook quality. Round, I have read about similar problems before:Troubleshooting the iPod and iPod m...
Cartridge break-in: with or without tears?
Those popular low compliance cartridges (Shelter, Denon,...) can take a long time to break in. I broke in my new Denon for the first 30 hours with the looked grooves on cardas record as well, and like Doug I did change the groove fairly often. Lea...
Budget MC Suggestions?
What arm do you have mounted on the Thorens? The Denon requires at least a very stiff medium or heavy mass tonearm. If it is a Thorens tonearm I am not sure whether I will work with the low compliance Denon. However if you have one of the Rega arm...
Is extremely accurate "VTA" adjustment necessary?
Update: Looks like there has been a lot more controversy about the vta article by Geoff Husband aside from this threadExposing the VTA myth?-RevisedThe Great VTA experimentCartridge alignment Part 2
Best PRaT CD Player for $600 or less ??
Another vote for the Rega Planet (original): I tried "upgrading" to a Linn Genki and sold the Genki again. The Rega is much better in terms of PRaT and pulls you more into the music.
What to do? Converting from 220v mains to 110v
I just found out that the Unison Unico integrated and CDP can be converted from 220 to 110 or back. Like many other manufactures the transformers used inside are dual voltage. The conversion only requires a resoldering of the transformer connectio...
Rega Exact on a Rega P5 - opinions?
I would get different size Rega spacers and get one of the recommended cartridges. Previously I had a Rega Elys on a P3 (sorry can't compare to the exact) and replaced it with the basic Denon DL103, better bass, more detail, more live. The DL103R ...
