Help needed to diagnose preamp channel unbalance.
It's a very common problem that potentiometers don't track well at the lower end of the range. In what position do you have that problem (8 o'clock)? what is the loudest position you can crank it up to?
Devore vs Harbeth
I compared the Harbeth 7ES3 to my Super 8s using a 25W push-pull tube amp. With that one, the Devore's are tight, fast, very detailed, and even handed. The Harbeths were somewhat thick and slower in comparison with a fuller, warmer, less detailed ...
what is the best, least costly DAC...?
To chime in on some earlier comments on Wyred (DAC2) vs. Weiss (DAC2 or Minerva): I just compared the two in my system for a full evening and have to say that both DACs are excellent at their respective price. The Wyred is very detailed, dyncamic,...
Dan D'Agostino is back with a new line
Are they manufactured in China too?
Shindo Monbrison balance issue?
The Shindo potentiometers are specified at around 0.8dB (10%). The TDK are specified at 0.5dB (5%) in the high attenuation range. Alps Blue Velvet would be around 1.0-2dB (12-25%). You may gain a little more in accuracy, but you may still be able ...
CineMag SUT
The impedance and output voltage of the Phasetech cartridge are on the low side (5Ohm and 0.25mV output) so that the higher step-up ratio of the CineMag should work well. Worth an try.
New Lyra Delos Cartridge
Jonathan, thank you very much for the detailed response - very helpful. One question about loading on the secondary - to get a 1:10 step up down to 10 Ohm loading one would have to use a 0.5 - 1 KOhm loading on the secondary. Problem is that most 1...
Help DPS turntable bearing oil needed
There is no need to replace the bearing in switching either armboard or tonearm on the DPS table. The bearing on the DPS is usually glued to the main acrylic board. Unless you want to glue/unglue each time, a second bearing is much easier to use fo...
New Lyra Delos Cartridge
Hi Jonathan,do you have any recommendations for step-ups for the Delos? The Delos internal impedance is somewhat higher than other Lyra cartridges and you seem to recommend 5-15 Ohm where 5 Ohm is even below the internal impedance of the Delos. Wo...
Help DPS turntable bearing oil needed
How long does the belt last for? Not sure - I would say depends on the climate. I haven noticed any difference in performance, speed variation or any change in the Belt in three years of having the DPS.I must of gotten one of the last DPS turntabl...
Help DPS turntable bearing oil needed
Willi at DPS has been incredible helpful in all conversations I had with him. I got to choose my Walnut base from the batch of 10 he finished at the time. I also picked up an extra syringe of silicon oil and a belt when getting my Schroeder No.2fw...
No PHONO IN Solution
The Sumico Blue Point 2 has an output of 2.5 mV which qualifies it for a MM stage.
No PHONO IN Solution
Taking a look at the RM-4+:RM-4+It is a standard MM to line-stage phonoamp. However it is missing the low-out MC to MM part. So it should work for your high-out Blue Point MC.
Trichord Dino vs Vacuum State JLTi Phono Stages
I Have owned both the basic Dino and the JLTI (with standard powersupply and upgraded one). Without having compared them at the same time (I owned them at different times), I would say the JLTI plays at a significantly higher level. The JLTI has m...
Shindo Monbrison balance issue?
Almost all carbon-based volume potentiometers have problems in the very low volume setting (7-8 o'clock). Ideally you want to have regular listening volume in the 10-11 position, loud volume in the 2 o'clock position. If it is an issue for you rea...
