Best way to upgrade from Krell 400xi
Elberoth2, IMO the 400xi is already on the slightly warmer side for a Krell. The new Pass integrated is faster, more detailed and more transparent than the Krell. It is slightly warmer and not quite as dry as Krell. Tonally the difference is not t...
Best way to upgrade from Krell 400xi
A friend just upgraded from the Krell 400xi to the new Pass Labs integrated INT150 - I'll ask him to post his impressions here.
Phono Preamps $500 - $1500
What tonal characteristics are you looking for?If you are looking for detail, speed, sound stage layering and separation between instruments, I would prefer the JLTI to the Graham and PS Audio (both I listened to extensively). The JLTI has way mor...
Choice of turntable ,tone arm and cartridge
Given the significant chunk of change you are considering spending, a trip to a dealer with a variety of tables set up or to a show like RMAF next month would be worthwhile. I second Swampwalker's suggestions - there are several major turntable ma...

Choice of turntable ,tone arm and cartridge
I second Dan_ed's choice (Galibier) and of course also tell you to check the table I have (DPS);-)
Wavelength Cosecant USB v3 vs Benchmark USB DAC1
Since the topic touched on the differences between the Benchmark DAC1USB and the Wavelength Brick, I should reiterate some comments I had posted on my system pages:Benchmark DAC1USB vs. Wavelength BrickHere are some comments on the two different D...
Hovland's new DAC
The most interesting piece of information:the Hovland uses an Empirical Audio USB interface. And Ayre will be coming out with a DAC with asynchronous USB interface developed by Gordon Rankin of Wavelength.Things are getting more interesting for PC ...
phono preamp advice
For the direction you are suggestion, I would get a used Pass Xono. Much more dynamic, drive, resolution and more solid bass than even the Sutherland Ph.D. For a more tubelike presentation with slightly less drive and less resolution the Arc PH3 S...
Mission speakers
The 751 freedom was an excellent monitor introduced around 1993, updated to freedom version in 1998. The 751 was Missions top of the line monitor, replacing the original 761i and original 780. There are later versions of the 780 (and 782?) that fa...
ZYX too light for my Shroeder arm. Help
I have the R50 Bloom, are the other models in the zyx line more suitable to the shroeder? I had a Bloom for a short while and measured a very high resonance frequency (13-14Hz) on a medium weight Rega arm. The compliance of the Bloom seems to be t...
ZYX too light for my Shroeder arm. Help
Frank makes a brass mounting plate for the No.2 which should fit better with the ZYX. The ZYX Bloom R50 I had had a really low compliance and needed a real heavy arm.
USB DAC's ?
I agree - your question doesn't make sense: Are you looking for ways to connect a Mac Mini to your Emm Labs DCC2? Well, the Emm Labs DCC2 is DAC so why not just connect the Mini directly as Lbmp suggests. Or get a HagUSB or Emirical Offramp to con...
Low Hours Phono Cartridges?
I am completely in line with Ekobesky's comments. Over the alst 4 years, I have sold a Kontra A with about 100 hours, a Benz Ace with about 50 hours and ZYX R50 with about 20-30. In each case, I really wanted to try for example a well known combin...
Own a TW-Acustic Raven One?
Stickman451, if you are considering alternative tables, take the DPS turntable into account as well. Different flavor than the Raven but equally good. Also, the Galibier and Verdier tables are impressive.
