Is this the future of the next CD player
The future of audio will come out of technical discussions? Most of the revolutions in audio have been driven by one thing only, convenience. The 78 was less convenient than the LP, which was less convenient than the musictape, less than the CD. Sou...
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
Aplhifi, your beliefs don't gel with my experience. Sure, computer to DAC sound can sound poor, just as CDP's can. But equally I have been able to get computer stored audio to match or better good transports from Meridian, Teac, Audiolab and Theta...
what is the difference between good and bad music
Again Mrtennis, I am describing how good and bad music occur to me. I am not describing how they occur to you. Yes the same piece of music may be good one day and bad the next, based on my emotional state, just as a pill might be good to take one ...
wht is the difference between good and bad sound ?
Mrtennis, I wasn't trying to enter into the existentialist debate, just describe how good and bad sound occur for me - no more and no less. Good and bad are generalised terms to describe what must be a continuum and may have several dimensions. Yo...
Is this the future of the next CD player
"NOTHING beats the graphic interface of a mouse and monitor for navigating your vast library of music."I totally disagree. Having tried both I find the functionality of the Squeezebox and its interface works far faster and more effectively than a ...
Will computer to DAC replace transports and cdp's?
There is a point at which reducing jitter further becomes irrelevant alongside other issues, but I acknowledge some will differ on when enough is enough.
Squeeze box vs. CD player
I have played around with the Squeezebox (all of them SB1, SB2 and SB3) extensively. The stock SB2 or 3 using analog out is surprisingly good, perhaps stonkingly good given the price, but not high-end. The stock SB2 or 3 using digital out can reac...
Is this the future of the next CD player
I reckon the Squeezebox and music downloads is more like the next thing - not something that plays disks. It makes more sense to store music on a centralised server and play the music from a distributed clients. Music retail distribution via disks...
what is the difference between good and bad music
Good music evokes an emotion consistent with the music. The emotion may or may not be one you welcome at the time. For example some may not like listening to sad songs because they find it depressing, but that does not make it bad music. Bad music...
wht is the difference between good and bad sound ?
The difference between good and bad sound is mainly in the skill or luck of the person putting the system together. Neither the Toyota nor the Merc are bad cars, but you can drive a bad Toyota or a bad Merc. Of course there is gear that will alway...
Using Japan 100V Accuphase amp in US 120V. Safe?
Sorry, you will need to find someone with specific knowledge of the Accuphase But if the transformer is truly designed for 100V then it will likely be stressed at 120V and therefore vibrate and hum more than it should. I have experienced this with...
Low capacitance IC??
Indeed.
Which digital cable to use with a Benchmark DAC-1
Indeed - in that context the KS2020 would be a good investment and a long-term keeper for when you upgrade the Benchmark.
Low capacitance IC??
sorry - 20kOhm - was near midnight and after a few Belgian Ales when I typed that. The DAC chip in the SB is rated to drive loads as low as 5kOhm, but at that level capacitance would become very important
I/c needed
Stealth PGS yes (has a gorgoeus honey glow to mids/upper-mids), Audience AU24 maybe (slightly blunted transients), Luminous Synchestra Ref maybe (ballsy bass, excellent speed and body, but maybe a touch aggressive on top) and perhaps Jena Symphony...
