SS versus Tubes Thanks guys - I hope we hear the ss side too and this post not just be seen as a arguing tubes are better. And Justlisten, I am very pleased to say I married the rough around the edges girl, a nice analogy. Jtinn - I don't think a tube guy can be ...
Martin Logan: They finally did it I believe you can get the SL3, Ascent and Aerius to integrate, but the SL3 is the hardest. What they all need is a wonder amp and great setup before they integrate. The elusive wonder amp is the big problem. There are very few solid state amps tha...
TEACH ME ABOUT BI-WIRE This is rich. First we have the scientists stating "there is no difference". When I point out that there is a circuit difference, I get "the issue is whether there is a real benefit". Then the same tired old rubbish about blind testing proving som...
Most emotionally involving cables? Thanks Ken. I will try them and report back.
Most emotionally involving cables? John 1, one of the problems with the net is when you are making a subtle joke, no one gets it. I got it, by the way. Those members of "the cable of the month club" always get really emotional about their new find too. I usually hate my cables. I r...
Anyone using Aurios Bearings under amps? In my experience, throwing lots of cash at footers, without using a good rack/shelf, is not wise. Using a light/rigid welded steel rack, and investing in Neuance shelves, the exotic footers I have are all now back in "the cupboard", and the sound ...
What speaker for Plinius SA-250 MK IV If you like Thiels, then they definitely go well with the SA-250 MK IV.
Congested sound, new speakers? Sedond, the 1.5 is quite different from the 3.5, 2.3 and 3.6 which as you say are all fairly open in the mids. The 1.5 sounds somewhat pinched by comparison.
Placette Audio Volume Control There is a very slight sonic signature, like an added sparkle to the sound, but much less sonic signature than any other preamp I have ever heard. The Remote Volume Control is a steal. Fantastic value, and yet still has some of the lack of drive t...
Has anyone heard the Martin Logan Acents Pete - you have got me confused. Did you really find that running just the panels and a sub was better? The woofer (not sub) on the Aerius i goes way into the mid-range. There are not too many subs that perform well in the 120Hz to 250Hz region, p...
Congested sound, new speakers? Very good point about near-field listening with Thiels Sedond. Right on. But I don't find the mids of the Thiel 1.5 to be very open, which is what makes them better for electronic than acoustic music in my opinion.
Need SS preamp that sounds like tube . Chuckle, chuckle. Really enjoyed the posts here. Hope we haven't subverted your original post too much. Back to the topic for a moment - I just want to re-state Caterham1700's point that solid state pre and tube power tends to have better PRAT tha...
Need SS preamp that sounds like tube . Thanks Argent and good luck.
Even "Cheap" CD-RW work in Sony 9000ES My recollection is reading that there are two storage sizes with CD-Rs, and the Sony 9000 plays one size and not the other. Hearsay, but it seemed to be a good source.
Adding a Second Sub If you are crossing over low enough, then you don't need two subs for stereo as Faberryman and others have pointed out. But two subs often gives a better result - the main reason being that you can get smoother response. Some subs use two drivers,... |
