Hi Fi in The Mechanic movie: what brand speakers?
If you pick apart the speaker placement, you'll find it to be very hollywood...when the whole thing goes up in flames, there is a decent wide angle shot from above and the right channel is shoved into a corner, bracketed by exterior glass walls......

B&W 685 vs Monitor Audio BR5
Nicknace, my 685s are in about a 8 foot triangle with my listening position, so I am much more near-field than you are. I am also now running a pure 2-channel set up in my listening room, 685s fed by a Parasound Halo pre, a Rotel RB-1080 (at 200 w...

Is this the END of DAYS for the high end CD player
If you consider the $2000-$5000 budget, computer audio would be a good way to go, but for me and my under-$1000 budget for a head unit, I have to go with a used high-end CDP. I have about 500 CDs in my meager collection, which is growing every wee...
Parasound Halo vs New Series?
The Parasound New Classic series was not designed by John Curl, the Halo series is. Curl is one of those legendary circuit designers and a lot of people respect his work. The last Parasound line to carry his design ideas was the HCA line, lots of ...
The Emotiva XDA-1
UPDATE: The email arrived that annouced my opportunity to purchase an XDA-1, but I decided not to buy it. I thought I could use the XDA as a pre- and as a source, if I could pipe sound into it from my laptop, but with all the techno garbage I'd ha...
Battle of affordable pre-amps: Rotel vs Parasound
After I blew all 4 rail fuses on my Rotel RB-1080, I took it into ListenUp in Denver, a local Rotel dealer. They treated me right. I am glad that Lewinskih01 has had such great luck with used gear, but if something else happens to anything I buy, ...

Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
I wouldn't say I'm a typical audiophile, as I just got started in this hobby in Aug of 2009, but I drive a 1994 Nissan Maxima. It has 151K miles on it and I've owned it since 1997. Pretty soon I am going to have to >sigh< buy another car bec...
