Any diigital players out there with phase control?
My Audio Logic DAC has a phase inversion knob. And in the high-priced spread, the EMM Labs one-box player has a phase inversion capability too.
Aside form the Human voice...
Hell, if it's the number of notes and different voices at once that you want, how about the organ? In the right hands (and feet) it can be very expressive. I still vote for the cello, though.
Symphony 5th - best recording
I've got to side with Rushton, Kleiber's version is the one I keep coming back to. However, I just got a new SACD with Vanska and the Minnesota Orchestra that I'm listening to tonight. Given how much I like their Third, Eighth and Ninth, this migh...
BAT to BAT - What's Best?
Getting back to the original question, I've heard the Kubala Sosna cables in a BAT system (Joe Kubala's, actually), a nice match. Worth auditioning in your system.
How to Remove MONSTER CD rings without damage
They will peel off, you just have to get your fingernails under them from the inside and keep plugging. Once you are able to one small part of them up a little bit the rest of them follows easily. They really don't hurt anything by their additiona...
Review: Dynaudio Audience 52 Monitor
I got these speakers for my home theater (chosen over B&W and Martin Logans) to be driven by Rotel electronics, and I love them there, but for kicks I brought them down to try in my main rig. These are terrific speakers, and not at all embaras...
Aside form the Human voice...
The cello, in my view. Guess the fact I'm a bass/baritone has a lot to do with it.
For the vinyl enthusiasts
It's been a long time since I've been to Tuscon, but there was an excellent store for classical called Jeff's Records in town, and a large one with tons of stuff of all genres on the main route heading out East--Plato, do you remember the names, e...
Why organ music
Early Telarc digital organ recordings sound quite bright to me as well, I don't think you're alone there. For Bach, I like the Christopher Herrick cycle on Hyperion, which is pretty well-recorded. The Hell recording is quite good, and the kid is a...
Why organ music
Interesting observation. While CDs can, in theory, get the bass notes better than all but the best-cut records, I believe that you're right. Maybe the reason is in part that the recorded space for most organs is a big part of their sound and is us...
SACD King under $7500
I have heard both the Cary and the Marantz SA11 S1, as well as the Sony and a modified Sony SCD 777ES (mine for many years). I would say that they're all very good, but have their own particular sound that you may or may not prefer. I found the Ca...
Why Palladium in cables, wiring, etc. . .?
Thank you for asking this question. I'm curious to see the responses.
brit guitar heroes
Hey Desoto, I note that your three guitarists are all ex-Yardbirds lead guitarists. Were you one of the people in another thread that listsed them among the most influential groups of all time?
Did the Herron VTPH Phono Stage have Sovtek tubes?
The original one that Keith Herron showed us in the NJ Audio Society, and this goes back a number of years, used Sovteks. You might want to ask them the question directly, Keith was a pretty straightforward guy, I would think he could tell you if ...
Anyone tried the new issue Genalex Gold Lion KT88s
I don't know anything about their sound, but one of the virtues of the old Gold Lions, etc. was their longevity. There are people with old Macintosh amps still using those tubes from the 60s they installed back then. I would be surprised to see th...
