Warmer sounding Solid State I would not say the Marantz is the end all sound that you want to achieve. There are much better sounding integrated amps out there that are warm sounding, like from Classe and Mcintosh which are excellent companies. There are also natural soundi...
New Cartridge Suggestions I would recommend the grado sonata, retail is $600, you might get a better deal. I used to own 1 years ago. On cheap turntables, they had a problem with hum. On the better turntables, it’s not an issue.not sure if you bought your JD9 yet, but i’m ...
Usher Audio BE-718 or Kef LS50 I have never heard a pair of 718's sounding awful, either the x-718 or the BE or DMD 718's. All I can say is if the 718's didn't sound good, the other equipment must not have been up to caliber of the Usher's. The older x-718's had the more smooth...
Turntable got absolutely crushed by CD Usually people into digital go cheap with analog and vice versa. Check out Fremer’s comparisons between digital and his analog setup, usually a 5-digit dac vs his $250k analog. Valid comparison?IMO, you have to spend many times more for a tt setup...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer... Do you really think that you are buying an authentic cartridge from China? I’ll bet it’s a knock off
Time for a Pre change? Need the wisdom... I have never heard a Mac be bright sounding, even their SS offerings. I would say you can almost go too much to the warm side with some Mac products
Amp/Preamps vs. High end AV Receivers If this is for 2 channel listening, there are no high end av receivers, too much compromise toward av. I have had a few onkyo/Yamaha av receivers and the onkyo’s Seemed to have a more warmer sound. You will do far better getting an integrated amp...
What’s a 10k to 15k speaker from smaller company that performs well? Usher’s
Cartridge recommendations Hana are very nice cartridges, but how can anybody say it is the best MM cartridge out there? You can’t. IMO there are better MM carts out there, but you will pay a little to a lot more $$$. Also, how easy is it to retip or rebuild them in the fut...
Are you as OCD as this audiophile? I might be wrong here but this thread looks very suspicious, a link of a video is promoted here of a guy stating here are the best dacs available, then the owner of an audio store (Mike Powell’s Audio) who happens to be the same guy in the video....
Still looking for an amplifier upgrade- but with a new twist..... I just replaced my Classe 300 watt monoblocks with a new BHK 250 signature.Couldn’t be happier. The Classe’s were too smooth and I couldn’t tame the bass with the Classe’s. I stuffed the ports to try to tighten up the bass and I trimmed the bass l...
Integrated w/phono but no DAC I should add that you can also modify the phono and preamp sound of the rogue Cronus magnum by tube rolling. When I had it I kept the kt120 tubes but changed most of the others with better tubes
How are you hearing no difference? I have witnessed a person with .99 cent cables with a pioneer receiver and swears he can’t hear a difference between cables. He compares $49 cartridges to more expensive 1’s and can’t hear a difference. Your system has to be of some decent quality...
Integrated w/phono but no DAC For a little more money used would get you a Rogue Cronus Magnum with KT120 tubes. Wry very good audiophile amp
SPEAKERS JUMPER CABLES Jumpers are a step up from the manufacturer supplied jumpers. Another step up would be to biwire from the amp. My amp has 2 pairs of posts per channel and I Tri-wire my usher’s from the same cable manufacturer. |
