what to do with 1000+ CD's, many imports and live concerts
The whole episode is very instructive as we baby boomers begin to age out. Leaving behind large collections of anything ... records, stereo equipment, comic books, figurines, etc without specific and responsible instructions for disposal is a huge...
what to do with 1000+ CD's, many imports and live concerts
Please read the op's responses ... these CDs are part of an estate and must be liquidated.  Donations are not an option, unless (speculating here) all the heirs went along with the donation, which is not likely.  Not sure how many who have suggest...
what to do with 1000+ CD's, many imports and live concerts
So, these are estate assets that are being liquidated with the proceeds distributed to heirs.  What a thankless task.  I would be tempted to sell the whole lot to a used record/ CD store in Manhattan (Academy Records or Bleecker Street Records).  ...
what to do with 1000+ CD's, many imports and live concerts
Start by being honest with yourself ... how much time do you really wish to devote to this?  Sorry for my abrupt directness. As with any small collectible, you are essentially limited to 4 options:  1) sell it piecemeal, where you may get the highe...
Amps from the 1980's -- What gear holds up sonically? Reliably?
The Adcom power amps of the late 1980's, (535, 545, and 555) were the transition for many of us from receivers to separates and the high (er) end.Rich
Vibration control inside a cabinet
I use both of these products for my amps, cd players, and turntables inside my bookcases, as well as underneath my speakers: Neoprene and cork padshttps://www.globalindustrial.com/p/fasteners/vibration-isolators/pads/neoprene-cork-pad-4-x-4-x-1Nat...
3 options: bookshelfs
I owned the KEF C55s and they were wonderful speakers.  British design, Canadian made.  Paired them with ADCOM 545/ 500 II electronics.  They were my divorce present to myself.  Only issue I could see is that they are 27 years old.  I would think ...
Turntable?
Hi Brian -Something to ask yourself when getting the TT is how interactive do you want to be with it.  Are you a get under the hood type.  If there were ever a component that invited endless tinkering, it is the turntable.  You can futz with just ...
KT-88 vs. EL34
Hi Andy -I would make the case that this is very speaker dependent.  As you may be getting from the other posts, the sound is different as opposed to necessarily better or worse. Are you still using the AR 4s?  For the longest time, I had the AR 30...
The awful truth about CDs, do they have the same shelve life as LP's ?
Agreed.  Have been hearing this drivel every 5 years or so for the last 25 years.  I must have over 5000 CDs and have never have one go bad. 'Basta' already as the godfather might say.
Pre-amp to receiver?
Rectilinear III are easily 40 - 50 year old speakers.  Did you want that kind of a restoration project? They were well regarded speakers.  Rectilinear was located in downtown Brooklyn, before they moved up to the Bronx.   Rich
Why are Harbeth speakers expensive while its drivers are not.
Rule of thumb is that materials are 20% of the price.  For speakers, 2/3 or so is the cost of the cabinet. For a $4K speaker, materials would cost $800.  The cabinet would be $550 of that and $250 would be for drivers, wire, cross-over, etc.Is what...
Cartridge for Rega Planar 3?
That makes a difference.  It sounded like you had the Rega already and that trying to get the best cartridge was the goal.TT and cartridge selection seems to require a lot more knowledge these days.  Almost too much information to take in and then...
Cartridge for Rega Planar 3?
Not being snarky, I was just trying to understand the logic.  If you look at some of the turntable packages out there (Pro-ject for example), their $800 or so turntables will come with a $200 or so cartridge.  Without knowing your receiver, it wil...
Cartridge for Rega Planar 3?
Not sure why you would spend $1k for a cartridge for a $1k turntable that you will be plugging into a receiver.  I have no experience with the Planar 3.  Rich
