Servicing Vintage Equipment
No experience with Vintage Electronics. I had my Marantz 2216B refurbished by The Soundsmith in Peekskill, NY. They have a web-site. They have all the original schematics; etc. and the technicians are all 20 year plus floor technicians.
Cheap A/V Receiver with A/B speaker outs AND phono
Justin:The Onkyo 474/484/494 are all latter day descendants of the 434. The 555 was in vogue when the 434 was, so it probably is AC-3 and not 5.1. Onkyo USA is located in Ramsey, New Jersey. You can probably call them and ask for information. (If ...
Cheap A/V Receiver with A/B speaker outs AND phono
The trick is how the "B" circuit exists relative to the "A" circuit and the CC/RL/RR speakers. On the $300 or so receivers, the speakers for the "B" circuit are on the same cicuit as the CC/RL/RR and therefore, you can not run both the HT and B sp...
6SN7 tubes "made in USA" branded Sentinel. ????
These were all popular styles back then. These look like radios made by PHILCO and CROSLEY. Sentinel had their own tube line, as I remember. Black & Red or Dark Brown & Red box. I have to check my Dad's store, he still has these radios aro...
Peter Gabriel remasters
Ben:I thought that they did a nice job on all the Peter Gabriel remasters. They sound detailed & alive, not as compressed as the original CD pressings. I picked up the Greatest Hits (Shaking the Tree); So Far; and Security. They sound good on ...
Does anyone have feedback on the TERK Pro antenena
To A1126lin:Sorry, I could have used better wording. On an outdoor antenna you can do two things: 1. rotate the directionality of the antenna; 2. choose which of the "elements" you wish to extend fully/partially/ or not at all.
Does anyone have feedback on the TERK Pro antenena
I thought that the rule of thumb for "maximum at best" radio reception was 250 miles for AM and 15 miles for FM (Dad ran a Radio Repair Shop in Brooklyn). But, it would also depend on the power of the transmitter, how the ions are lining up; etc. ...
BC Recommends-Grace by Jeff Buckley
In the spirit of your introductory thread, I find the GRACE selection an interesting first choice. In my repeated listenings over the last 5 years, I find the music compelling and enjoyable, but not totally satisfying. The CD does not find itself ...
What were your SACD impressions at NY show?
What was different (almost novel, given the SACD software roll-out) was having hundreds of SACD's to actually chose from and being able to purchase. I view the SACD (audiophile) kiosks/sections in Best Buys; Tower; and J&R as poorly stocked in...
Best sound at Stereophile show.
Very partial to Room #705 (Music Hall). The EPOS M-15 floorstanders with the new CREEK 5000 series amp & the Music Hall 7 turntable. Very sweet.
Boston Acoustic VR M90
No experience with the Boston Acoustic VRM90, but I owned the Denon 2801 and found that when it came to music reproduction, that it was a difficult receiver to match both CD players and speakers to. I had the best success with Acoustic Research (I...
Home Theater speakers on a massive budget
I have done very well with Acoustic Research (AR 302) speakers that I have purchased through www.accessories4less.com. These folks are the authorized Internet distributor for discontinued AR styles. They are offering the AR-15C for $190 pair (disc...
Any one audition the Music Hall MMF CD 25??
This was my response to a previous thread. It still applies.I have been using the MMF CD 25 for about 2 months now and I am very pleased with my purchase. I listen to mostly acoustic; popular vocals; and jazz music. I find that the player picks up...
Recommendations A/V RCVR
Sugarbrie is on target with his comments about the Outlaw. As to the ones you are considering, the Marantz SR6200 was just reviewed very highly for music playback in What Hi Fi (British magazine). From experience, the Denon (2802) was not great wi...
Recommended SACD of " Smooth Jazz "
