Best Classical Music for Sonus Faber Stradivari
Maxim Vengerov's entire output for Teldec includes many of the important sonata pieces for violin and piano, as well as him playing war horses like Tchaikovsky' violin concerto and Brahm's Violin Concerto. Most are recorded with the CSO, BSO or NY...
Anyone used an SME IV with VPI Aries 2?
Yes, exactly, a Dynavector VX-1s. I'll alert him to your thread.I run the original Aries with a JMW 10.5 arm and van den Hul Frog.
Thiel 7.2 vs Wilson Sophia
Lyric was a Thiel dealer and no longer carries the line. Sound by Singer has been selling a lot of Thiel in the last few years -- perhaps they took the line for the city.
Anyone used an SME IV with VPI Aries 2?
Pretty much any arm will be compatible with a high-mass, un-sprung table like the Aries. Problems can arise when you start pairing various arms with sprung tables, like the Linns. I have a good friend running an SME IV on a TNT. It works very well.
Thiel 7.2 vs Wilson Sophia
Lyric at 83rd and Lexington had a pair of 7.2 demos for sale the last time I was in there.Innovative at 58th and Third currently has a pair of Sofias on the floor. The post about the Thiels requiring a lot of juice (A LOT) is correct. The Sofias ar...
Need advice on a very dynamic, full range speaker?
Seems like I have contributed to three or four threads about Mahlers in the past week.If you want to learn about the Mahlers, I suggest you go to the website of Vienna Acoustics' U.S. distributor, Sumiko, and read the Anthony Cordesman review for ...
Best speakers for Classical music under 10k used
Matti:I have never run either the Salons or Mahlers with really high wattage solid-state amps, so I have never been able to find their dynamic ceiling. My guess is that the Salons have a slightly higher dynamic ceiling, because they use fourth-ord...
Best speakers for Classical music under 10k used
You have a lot of options if you're willing to spend $10k, but there are unfortunately few speakers costing less than $20k that can reproduce full-scale orchestral music without compression.Assuming you have a large room and a powerful solid-state...
Trading Dynaudio Contour s5.4's for ???
I owned Dynaudio 3.3's (the predecessor to your speaker) and ran them in the same room as my Vienna Acoustics Mahlers. In comparison, the Mahlers are warmer and meatier in the mids. Both speakers are open and transparent in the mids and highs. Eac...
Question about Spectral DMA-100S amplifier
Drew W: Classic Spectral gear features an ultra-wide bandwidth design (from DC to 200 Mhz.) that must be used in all Spectral systems featuring networked MIT cabling that filters out certain types of RF and RFI to prevent the componentry from goin...
Comparing the Dynaudio C1 and the C3
I saw, but did not hear, the C1 at a dealer last week. I queried the dealer about them, and he said that some people find them to be a bit forward sounding, but that they image like crazy and are plenty dynamic and have enough bass for most situat...
Best solid state pre-amp below US $ 10.000,00 ??
The VAC Renaissance Phi preamp is based upon the VAC Renaissance Signature Mk. II, not the other way around, the latter having been introduced a good three years prior to the Phi Series.VAC build quality is widely known in the U.S. to be among the...
Jeff Rowland battery power supply..Big improvement
Mike:I owned Model 6's with batteries. I am also one of those people living in Manhattan, and thus was contending with a power supply that was weighted down with a lot of junk.I found that, in listening at low to medium volume on what most people ...
What is the quietest preamp you've used?
My Rowland Coherence II. It is battery-powered and dead quiet. It is a fully differential balanced design. You pose a very important question. It was not until I lived with a super-quiet preamp that I understood the importance of noise to a preamp'...
Do Audiophiles blow speakers?
I have noted all of your names and will never buy used speakers from you.
