Matching solid state amps with tube based pre amps
I’m running a BAT VK50-SE with an Orchard Audio StarKrimson Ultra GaN FET Amplifier. I’m done. No more searching for the Holy Grail. I haven’t found it but this is close enough for me.
Tube Amplifier Sound Characteristics
I dabbled inTubes last year and this year. My conclusion: Tube Preamp followed by a GaN FET Amplifier (Orchard Audio Ultra) is my combination of choice. The Jolida 3502 (KT150’s) worked fine with the BAT VK50-SE but it at times felt like 2nd order ...
DAC That Punches Above Its Price Point
My take :I gave up on Vinyl 5 years ago and never looked back. Those LP’s are all ripped to my hard drive and on DVD discs for backup. To get that LP like sound from Digital as I learned won’t come from an AVR (Marantz SR5011) or from the DAC of a ...
Owning the speakers you dreamed of 20 years ago
Sweet F all has changed regarding Speakers in the last 20, 30, 40, and even 50 years ! Materials may have "improved" things which goes without saying. But unconventional thinking on how to best reproduce sound hasn't done anything special IMHO. Wh...
Music Direct and my recent exoeriences
I bought a brand new Jolida 3502p back in January of this year. It’s been rock solid and sounds amazing. Music Direct was a big help and even quoted me on some trade in’s towards the purchase. I had to sell the 3502p in order to finance my 5 Chann...
How important is the pre-amp?
So I’ve ran both. My PS Audio DirectStream DAC Sr. Direct into a pair of PS Audio M700’s. An excellent pairing making me wonder why would I need a preamp for anyways. Then I got an BAT VK50-SE and ran Orchard Audio Gen1 StarKimson Amps on the Mids...

EXACTLY ! And that's what I'm doing with the Orchard Audio Ultra Amplifier modules. Five of them with 2 massive Toroidal's for the GaN Amps (one powers two GaN's, the other power's three GaN's) along with smaller toroidal's for the drive sta...

Running the Ultra with the BAT Preamp this weekend elevated everything. Just like last years little monoblocks. These higher power modules reaches out to the lower Bass of any Speaker I throw at it !A great Amplifier just got greater.

I’ve been doing this Audiophile Crap for over 36 years (High School) and lots of failed and successful DIY projects. Mostly Speakers and some electronics stuff.I just won’t spend my hard earned money (or credit) on pure snake oil. Instead, take th...

@ricevs Get some serious shelving and footers....will blow your mind. Get all the cables off the floor.....way more open sound. Lots to do. Nah...that’s all crap talk. But I do have my AC wires separated (for the most part) from the line level (...

I've used the PS Audio M700's and M300's for over a year. It was the sound of the Orchard Audio Amplifier's that won me over. I've already fooled people by teling them it's a Class A/b Amplifier with interior heat sinks for about 30 min. of listen...

I feel bad for GenX'ers that missed out on the 60s and 70s.
I'm also born in '69. I hated all that New Wave/Punk Shyte that was on the Radio growing up Southwest of Toronto in Hamilton, Ontario.I loved the Rock music of the 60's and 70's during the 1980's. Fortunately (in most cases), I saw a lot of the Ba...
