Great Ska music
Early Toasters is pretty good. For "newer" ska, most of the stuff on Moon Ska records is good.New York Ska Jazz Ensemble and Skandalous All Stars are two other good bands 
It's a Soul Thang
Second the vote for Isaac Hayes and nominate Smokey Robinson, both with the Miracles and without. I just recently got a copy of Quiet Storm and it's a good one. 
Rel Subwoofers
I have a REL Strata III. I used standard feet until I finally settled in on placement and then changed over to spikes. Didn't really notice much difference in sound between the two. My flooring is uncarpteted Pergo laminate.
