Another help me spend money thread or maybe not.... going to AXPONA
@hughp3 I was just speaking with "the" Vandersteen dealer in ATL the other day and he mentioned how the system you described in your original post sounded "fantastic" ... i.e, he experimented with top end Magnepans rigged with the Vandersteen cros...

@tomthiel loved the story about Nelson Pass. I googled it and came up with this post from the master himself on another board. I’ll highlight a snippet from his post here: "It was the perfect high end audio product: Exotic, inefficient, expensive,...
Synergistic Research Cable w/mpc / tuning bullets not lighting up
@rodman99999 Thanks.  PM send to Michael.

@jafant, there is a sense with regard to the "digital" sound I was experiencing that sounded like I was getting more of the reflected sound the microphones were picking up than the direct sound on orchestral works during quiet portions.  I don't k...

Enjoying the 9Hs today doing some experimenting with different amps. Specifically the Prima Luna Duologue Integrated which I find too muddy in the midrange as an integrated, however when I feed the HT passthrough on that amplifier with a different...

Since we're talking about amps again, I would add that Kent at Pass directed me to the X.8 series rather than the XA.8 series, saying that the X series would mate better with the Thiels.

@jafant, I agree with your assessment regarding the Bryton cubed series, its definitely not as clinical as the last versions of the Bryston amps.  Still I was disappointed that despite the absolutely bulletproof build quality, 20 year warranty and...

@audiotroy Thanks.  Since that rear wave is out of phase with forward facing wave (am I correct on that?), I did wonder whether that rear wave is cancelling out bass waves that make their way to the rear of the cabinet creating a cardioid dispersi...

Can anyone expound a bit on what the "vibration-cancelling" rear bass drivers are doing beside working for an inert cabinet which doesn't resonate and color the sound?  Is that all they're doing?

@contuzzi, Classical music has alot of metallic shrill sustained high frequency information particularly during loud complex orchestral crescendos that I don’t find present to the same degree in the tiny bit of jazz I listen to. Those are the only...
Auditioned Magico A3 - VERY DARK...
I know this is an old post but I heard the Magico A3 for the first time last week and I absolutely agree with the OP....very very dark tonally,...on an absolute basis way too much bass, although that bass was tuneful actually and articulate it was...
Magico A3
So I listened to the A3 last week for the first time, and on good electronics (Constellation), well setup in terms of the room (very large room, no apparent problems there). I was frankly extremely surprised to to find them tonally VERY DARK so I’...

@andy2 and @tomthiel.  Its good to hear that Vandersteens are now voiced more similarly to Thiels.  People also used to say Vandersteens had a shelved midrange which helped simulate lots of "depth" and some folks believe that has NOT changed.  Wha...

I agree on the high resolution at lower volumes in addition to moderate volume levels and the holographic sound stage but I did find that the latter was a little problematic to achieve.  My experience was that only a very small of toe in provides ...
What are the weak points of Pass amps and pre-amps ?
Perhaps I have the wrong model but I thought the Coda Continuum 8 amplifier is a high biased A/AB amplifier not 150 watts pure class A. With regard to whether the X series or XA series is "better," I assumed the XA would be preferred but when I ta...
