Do your ears deceive you?
Of course your ears can deceive you. Your mind can play tricks on what you "want to hear" as opposed to what is really being played. This will largely depend on your age and hearing, but no question about your mind playing tricks on what you "want...
Why I don't hear bass drums on Jazz LPs?
@dogearedaudio I was listening to Ben Webster's Blue Light LP yesterday. Really wonderful album. Double bass in the front-middle of the soundstage and the cymbols/snare drums on the left side back of the stage. Webster played the horn on right sid...
Why I don't hear bass drums on Jazz LPs?
@bdp24 Thank you very much for your very informative response. I thought may be the mics did not capture the bass drums. Now I know it has to do with the way they played the bass drum. It is always good to hear from those who know the subject. Aga...
Why I don't hear bass drums on Jazz LPs?
@czarivey My bad. It should be "powered by" 😂
Listening position/speaker position
Without getting in to details, I will say your friend gave you a terrible advise. My room is the same width and length as yours. My speaker placement is very much the same as yours. Placing your listening chair against the back wall is a very bad ...
Kind of Blue
Funny. I was a newbie a very long long time ago. I was shopping for classical music LPs at Twist & Shout here in Denver. I was talking to someone and mentioned I was unsure if I can enjoy jazz or not. Luckily, this guy was the co-owner of the ...
Component contributions to “sound stage”
In my experience, synergy between amplifier, speaker, and the listening room play a dominant role recreating sound stage, granted it is captured and recorded. Of course, your playback system should be able to faithfully extract this information. S...
Overkill for small room
Those speakers will be fine in your room. But you will need a beefy amplifier to drive these. They are rated as 86dB and 4 ohms, Ouch!. An amp tat can deliver high currents should drive these comfortably.
Rega P10 with Apheta 3
You got a beautiful system. There is always room for improvement when it comes to vinyl playback due to its inherent limitations. Each addition we hope will minimize these error and bring us closer to the real thing. Its tricky pulling this thing ...
The Psychology of Constant (Equipment) Change
There are many factors to consider including age, health issues, hearing capabilities, finances, time, etc. Then there are responsibilities and commitments. So based on these and many other factors audio can be a hobby some and for others it can b...
Emotiva XPA-2 Gen 3 or NAD C 275BEE or Rotel RB-1582 MkII for Revel F208
F208s frequency range was not specified. Low-frequency extension: 23Hz (–10dB), 27Hz (–6dB), 31Hz (–3dB). Based on these values, one can assume F208s can safely reproduce 31hz-20kHz. Nominal impedance given as 8 Ohms, but that is not the case. Th...
Help me pick a Dac
@adg101 AR CD2 is based on Crystal semiconductor CS4329 – 1 bit DAC. This Delat-Sigma chip is no comparison to the UA D20400 and they are universes apart. But I get your point. I think D20400 is so out dated people who owned Stax X1T, ML 30.5, etc...
Help me pick a Dac
I can highly recommend Audio Research DAC2 for you. Currently there two units available, one here in Audiogon and the other other at High Performance stereo. I believe unit from High Performance Stereo has new caps installed.  AR DAC2 is a solid ...
Ken Fritz article
I am happy for Ken for reaching his goal of putting together the ultimate hi-fi audio system. In doing so he must have sacrificed a lot, but the his health robbed him the joy of listening to his system. May He Rest In Peace As we grow old, our he...
Your greatest high end audio purchase!!!
Without any reservation I can say purchase of Thiel 3.6 speakers and pairing it with a Mark Levinson 23.5 amp were the greatest purchases. Rest of the system was assembled around those two to fit my listening tastes. And I never looked back. For t...
