Music Reference RM9 and Preamp Experiences
No, and I was using the Joule LA150 SE with the 6db gain setting, and to have owned the V4s. Usually, loud was 11-12 o'clock. In fact I now use a zero-gain preamp with the RM9s. Something sounds wrong with your experience, but no idea what. Now wi...
Audio Research Preamp Experts?
I understand that the SP16 was based on the 6s with there use of 12ax7s, is the older version a better sounding linestage, or did the improvement in parts surpass the older model, even though the 16 was an entry-level model. I also understand the ...
Music Reference RM9 and Preamp Experiences
I regained my senses and decided to keep my RM9 Special Edition, I could just tell I would regret selling it; it is clearly Roger's masterpiece in a high powered tube amp - not sure another will come up for sale, they really are keepers.
sub integration merlin tsm mme
It seems like your ears and Bobby's recommendation are on the same page, I would have to have an awfully good reason to not follow his recommendation, seems like you have found the sweet spot on your own.
Merlin owners, AC or battery for BAM?
Well, I've been playing the Master BAM and RC Networks for about 10 hours now, so it might get even better - but it really does not have to. I've already commented on the VSMs in general so I won't rant about how good I think these speakers are. I...
SS amps for merlin vsm
I di have the Aleph J (First Watt/Pass) and it indeed worked very well with the Merlins, about as good as the XA30.5s driving the Merlins which are such an easy load (not current hungry). I assume, the J2s would also work well, but have not heard ...
Merlin TSM-MX-r Owner Review
Hi Bobby. The Masters have arrived. 5 hours so far. Will describe when I have some more time on them.
Merlin TSM-MX-r Owner Review
Nice review Rob. The TSMs are the speakers I recommend to those non-audiophiles seeking my opinion, and quite a fe have entered the Merlin fold. While at their price point there are other choices that might provide more full-range performance, I r...
Merlin TSM comparisons
Robbob, I took the cult idea as intended. The hardest thing to believe is that (and it is the VSM with which I am most familiar) a small two-way speaker would be able to compete with the mega$$$$, large, multi-driver speakers with a claim to being...
Looking for warm sounding speakers
Let us know when you are ready to sell the A/D/S.
Merlin TSM comparisons
If you look at the reviews, by owners of Merlin speakers, at audioreview.com, I would say it is a pretty large cult:) Bobby is either a great designer, or a great hypnotist - looking for another speaker just never crosses my mind at this point and...
Looking for warm sounding speakers
Great electronics and a/d/s were certainly some of the best speakers I heard back in the day. Sonus Faber certainly has a reputation for warmth, and as Jaybo says, the brit speakers in general do to -- Spendor, ProAc, Harbeth, etc.
Acoustic Damping Behind Speakers?
The Acousticmac panels work very well for me. I use to bass versions behind the speakers and two "midrange", light thinner panels for side reflections. They also appear to be a bargain compared with others I have seen. I recommend them.

Ok, so you mean no bottom heft. It seems like the great speakers always have a mid-band and highs in balance with their bass output, however deep that bass might be. One thing Bobby gets right as that balance, which is why both the TSMs and VSMs, w...

Not sure what thin means. Is this related to frequency balance, or image density? In the latter case, tubes are not "thin", SS...
