Pass Labs:What to expect fm XA60.5 to XA100.5 The man is on of the greats, and owning most any amp he has had a hand in is a pretty good thing. Loved his short-lived 25 watt, Aleph J which should be great with most any 89-90db or higher and smooth impedanced speaker, maybe as good as the XA30...
Preamp Recommendation for Pass Aleph Amp Don't know if the Doge 8 is any goof or not, but 620ohm output might not be ideal for the Aleph series amps. I would think you almost always have to go with a SS pre or a passive with buffer.
Pass Labs:What to expect fm XA60.5 to XA100.5 I still believe the monoblock argument about separation, though it may be an article of faith as some folks I respect on things audio don't believe this is the case with well made gear, I don't know but there certainly is very highly regarded gear...
Pass Labs:What to expect fm XA60.5 to XA100.5 I would expect all those benefits when you move from an underpowered amp for one with the power necessary to drive a given speaker. But I'm not sure how you know there is no sonic price driving a speaker that can easily be driven by an XA30.5 and ...
Tube amps known to have a low damping factor? yup :)
Tube amps known to have a low damping factor? Highly overrated spec? I hope so - my CAT JL2 and current amp have tiny little DFs, yet I had/have well controlled, tuneful bass. High DF might very well make my speaker sound constipated.
Tube amps known to have a low damping factor? Are there any tube amps with DF higher than 20? You don't see that much, I don't think.
Speaker with most dynamic PUNCH? Do "pro" speakers and studio monitors tend to have more punch than those made for the domestic market?
Pass Labs:What to expect fm XA60.5 to XA100.5 7p62mm: "A couple of advantages that the XA60.5 has over the XA100.5 is the 33% lower up front cost and the 33% lower power consumption (200W versus 300W)."And in my experience, lower power versions of the same circuit generally sound better than ...
Help with a first tube amp Please I don't think you can get a better recommendation that Grinnell's for not only an introduction to tubes in an integrated, but just maybe an endgame - which of the three? Ask 3 people they will give you 3 answers.
Why no reviews of the Magnepan 3.7 in Stereophile I especially enjoy JA's suprise when his measurements are hard to reconcile with the reviewers observations.
Where to use Isolation devices I found using Herbies Tenderfeet under Digital, and Isocups under all tube equipment has made me stop thinking about isolation, and that is worth the price of admission (whether they make a difference or not).
Why no reviews of the Magnepan 3.7 in Stereophile I like the photos:) Boy, in the old days an "A" rating from TAS was sure hard to get, funny how few SOTA pieces existed and how many do today, at least according to Stereophile. But hey, the magazines are here to entertain, keep us interested, and...
Why no reviews of the Magnepan 3.7 in Stereophile I am confused by your confusion, they, the reviewers, are in a position to listen to equipment I cannot, and generally have a much larger range of equipment that they have also listened to by way of comparison. I do not need them to assess equipme...
Why no reviews of the Magnepan 3.7 in Stereophile What is the best selling speaker of the past 20 years not reviewed by TAS or Stereophile? |
