most difficult speaker to please Apogee Scintilla by far. Why do you ask? You design amps?
BEL 1001 amps. Specs and ordering bump for comment
wright wla12a Just wanted to revive this thread to see if there are any other comments on this preamp.
Tube sound with no tubes Spaz, if you want to avoid the stereotypical over analytical, edgy SS sound, I think you can do so easily with many of today's SS offerings. You would certainly be fine with a Pass pre. If you want an SS tube to sound like a tube pre, that is anot...
Just took delivery of the Red Wine Audio 30.2 and- Has anyone heard both Red Wine and Patek?
Aesthetix Callisto signature or ARC Ref3 Regarding the Audio Note, whether there is a difference or not (I'm sure they sound different); I can't possibly imagine any possible difference that could be worth the difference in price; unless you have basically unlimited assets (the money jus...
Tube sound with no tubes Isn't the Pass amp input impedance on the low side? 10kohm? I would think it would provide a challenge to many tube pres to drive adequately. I would confirm with the preamp manufacturer before using with a Pass amp.
Have you heard the latest Merlin VSM-MXe speakers? Dgarretson, you don't hear a difference running the BAM into a tube pre buffer compared with it running into an amp after the pre? Or are you saying it is good enough, so don't worry?
Have you heard the latest Merlin VSM-MXe speakers? Arkio, do you have the Vandersteen 5A?
Are passive preamps better? Maybe $200.
Have you heard the latest Merlin VSM-MXe speakers? Skooks, is the Ars Sonum next?
Are passive preamps better? Low input impedance with high output impedance from the pramplifier reduces the output in the base and trebles, they roll off. As a result the mids seem to be pushed forward since the balance of the sound is altered from top to bottom. Typically, ...
Are passive preamps better? I'm not saying this happened, but my experience with Pass Amps is that they tend to be less than ideal matches for most tube preamps because of their typically low input impedance. This would tend to lessen the output at the bass and treble region...
Are passive preamps better? Dpac996, what SS do you find has the attributes of good tubes? I would love to stop worrying about biasing and tube replacement, but unfortunatley I can't find SS that does the job. My most recent stab was the Pass XA30.5 which is proabably the be...
Are passive preamps better? I would look for a used Audible Illusions 3A at the $1000 price point - 4-6 years old. But before you go the tube pre route, if you choose to, you need to find out what the input impedance of the HK amp is, to be sure that the tube pre will drive ... |
