To power condition or not to power condition AVR
With digital in the same unit as your preamp and amp you can't isolate them. However isolation from the noise on your ac line may be quite beneficial. Perhaps audition an Equitech 2Q to gauge the benefit.
Materials to reduce sidewall flex & vibration ?
Thanks rotarius. I very much respect the benefits of measurement with equipment; but it's not available to me.. You mention " you could use materials that dissipate vibrations in the form of heat on the inside walls without much thought ". If so,...
Comments on new B&W 800 D3
I'm with you tympani and I think a big part of the reason is the tapered head designfor tweeter and midrange. A most elegant and simple design to remove early reflections. It's hard for me to imagine anything better. I agree as well about room pla...
This is My Music on CBC FM, Saturday mornings
I like In Concert and The Signal as well. My tuner allows fine tuning to the signal and it makes a difference. Perhaps I have better reception.
Any News on MQA Lately?
I'm not surprised that virtually all music providers or transmitters will jump in. They are forever looking for some 'magic' to boost sales. DVD-A, SACD, were supposedly leaps better than CD. They had a run. Now it's this new 'thing'. I  admit to ...
Interesting comments on noise regarding LIGO,
Thanks geoffgait. Interesting. I didn't think to look for a post on it. I had looked at the stand post. I found the question such a no brainer I lost interest. I thought the extraordinary efforts within the LIGO research relevant and interesting.
Interesting look at THD
It's also interesting how much of the noise rides on the neutral conduction; and that for switch mode power supplies the neutral wire should be about 1.7 times that of the conductors. ( I wonder if this is so in the 'switch mode' supplies in audio...
Interesting look at THD
Thanks randy. It's the review of concepts I find interesting. Also the cost/benefit graphs. The way that skin depth of the conductor varies with frequencyalso surprised me. (I don't have an EE or similar background). This business of  voltage noise a...
Can't tell,if my house is properly grounded
When did this problem arise?
Saturday Afternoon at the Opera, often live, from The Metropolitan Opera
I haven't been to the Lincoln. I consider myself fortunate to have this quality of live Opera, and the interesting commentary, played over my system, and have never found cause to consider any technical/acoustical quality. Perhaps due to the placeme...
How do you deal with absolute polarity?
I am particularly sensitive to the polarity and have a system which is very revealing but it has not been my experience that 'up to 90% of CD's are in reverse phase; although this figure has been quoted by others as well. My observations indicate ...
Saturday Afternoon at the Opera, often live, from The Metropolitan Opera
I don't know about WQXR. I listen via CBC FM 105.7 way out in the Vancouver area in BC.I agree about coughing. It seems many modern audience members don't really have a deep appreciation of the experience available from live music with the incredi...
Interesting look at THD
Yes. You need to read well into the article to get to the partsthat I find interesting, relative to audio system distortions and remedies.
Do I need a power conditioner?
I suggest you take a relaxed look at the Equitech website to see why their balanced power is useful for any audio system. I feel the dedicated lines are far down the food chain as the don't eliminate all the noise that comes into your home.
Spectral SDR-3000
gpgr4blu.. Joyful listening. I'm sure it will be simply thrilling. Cheers(with more than a little envy*)* naturally
